BIG Project, shoult i wait OSc3 or can i start now

( not OSc3 i ment MS3 - what part the MS3 is anyway lol?)

Excuse my English grammar, it's not my language

I have big store project coming up, with a lot of different plugins/modules (around 30+) and a different currently existing skin. After reading about MS3 i definitely would like to use it in future. I also read that all tep_* function names would be osc_* & other incompatibilities what could exist.

My question is:

Should i start to build site with ms2.2 & later convert/upgrade to MS3

Should i start to build site/store with MS3 beta & fix bugs later, or add sertain plugins later

Should i wait (how long) & start when the MS3 is ready

or Should i start with 2.2 and not add certain plugins/modules ?

How big job is later to upgrade ready made store to MS3 ? How current contrib./hacks work on MS3?

Thank You!

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

I will excuse your English grammer provided you use "you" and not "ya" and never ever use "wanna" instead of "want to" :)

From what I have read osC 2.2 Milestone 3 has not been released yet but it still planned for this year.

I personally would not wait for any future release as nothing is certain.

The commonality between MS3 and MS2 is pretty much the database scheme.

So if you have a lot of products to setup and are short on time to do so, you might be thiinking about starting with MS2 and migrating to MS3 when ready.

But practically all contributions will need to be rewritten to work with MS3, unless you introduce some kind of compatibility layer for MS2, but then you are not taking advantage of the inherent performance improvements in MS3.

If you need something working by a set date, you should use MS2 as there is no release date for MS3, rumour has it that is should still be in 2005, but there is no committed date. Secondly when MS3 comesout, you will have a pretty big job in incorporating your 30+ contributions. Possibly some of this will be part of MS4 (actual content of MS4 is also not defined yet), some probably won't so, either you or someone else will need to step up to the challege to make an MS3 compliant version ...

you see a lot of ifs ...

if I were you, go with MS2 ... in flemish they say "it's better to have one bird in the hand instead of then in the sky"

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON

I do not use the responsive bootstrap version since i coded my responsive version earlier, but i have bought every 28d of code package to support burts effort and keep this forum alive (albeit more like on life support).

So if you are still here ? What are you waiting for ?!

It is not clear that when MS3 comes out there will be such an overwhelming advantage that you'd be eager to scrap your existing store and convert to MS3. MS3 will, it is said, provide a better foundation for the future, but MS2 is quite functional and there are lots of contributions that work with it.

If I were starting today, I'd use MS2.

Thank You guys, I'll start my store with MS2 & later just import database to MS3 based store! I am sore a lot of good plug-ins have MS3 version out soon after MS3 is ready.
