Search Engine

Good evening,

I recently installed oscommerce a few months ago in a directory called shop. So the link to my shop is public/shop so it will be www.mywebsite.com/shop, now that I have added a few thousand items to my website I premsume that a search engine like google will be able to index everything.

I recently added my website to google. I made my front page automatically re-direct to my shop, and yet none of the items are appearing on google search engine.

Does anyone know how I can make the items in my shop appear in search engines so I can get more customers?

Please help :),

Thanks

How did you make your front page automatically redirect? If you did it wrong, you have just upset the spiders and wont get anywhere at all.

Also, if you have a new store, you probably wont see any results in Google for a good couple of months. The only way round this is to have a hell of a lot of backlinks pointing to your site. This is called the "sandbox" effect - new sites are put in a holding place on Googles list to allow the development of the new site to complete and to prevent their results from being cluttered with loads of "being built" sites, among other reasons.

Search these forums for "seo techniques" or "optimisation" - there is a whole wealth of knowledge here, and when you do get indexed you should be in a great position to build from. To check whether your site is search engine friendly, go to one the google emulator sites (sorry have not got any of the urls to hand), type in your own sites homepage and see whether the spiders are able to get around your site or not.

Please note - if I have suggested a contrib above, it doesnt mean it will work! Most of the contribs are not ones I've used, but may be useful for your particular problem....

Have you tried a refined search? Chances are your problem has already been dealt with elsewhere on the forums.....

if (stumped == true) {

return(square_one($start_over)

} else {

$random_query = tep_fetch_answer($forum_query)

}

This is the wrong way to redirect as far as the SE's are concerned. If your front page is not being used, you should get rid of it and have your site start with your oscommerce index page.
