Been busy for over a day now in trying to find my way around oscommerce.

After installation i could see my store in the browser so i assumed all was well. Until i tried to adapt the store.....

Tried to find the texts that describe the various products in order to alter them. Searched every php file in the catalog....but no texts....

Posted a thread here and got the reply to "go to admin". So i opened the admin folder in search for....

No texts....

Just now i've discovered that i needed to open the administration tool :D

Had some problems logging in to it because of the fact i am using php5 (wich was actually the problem all this time).

Found a thread on it: I had to use php_switch to run php4, and yes...hurray! It works  I can log in to the tool now and start configuring stuff <sigh>.

Boy did i feel stupid..... I just couldn't see what these people meant with opening admin....

Here's the actual question: (you guys still with me..? Wake up! :) )

Do i have to use that switch everytime i start up xampp or is this a one time only solution?

One-time solution. If you were a php web developer though you would find it very useful, because you could run that file whenever you wanted to switch between different versions of php for testing purposes.

By the way if you want Apache and MySQL to start automatically when you boot your computer just click on the apache_installservice and mysql_installservice command files, and they will both be installed as 'services' and start when your computer starts.

Make sure that you shut down apache and mysql and exit xampp before running those files though.
