I pretty much finished everything on the website except for SSL. I know i need a certificate but i dont know which one to get. I'm a novice to this stuff so I might not know what im talking about. i tried searching but i couldnt find an answer. My questions are these:

1. Which certificate should i get?

just tell me which one to get and i will get it. i checked out thawte which seemed to be the cheapest.

2. How do i install the certificate so the shopping car and stuff work.

Please help... this is the last thing i think i need, besides payment authorization, in order to get the site up and running

If your site is on a shared server (most are) then your site needs to have its own dedicated ip address before you can install a full ssl cert.

Then you need to know if you can install it yourself from your web hosting control panel, or if your hosting company insists on buying it for you and installing it (this could be expensive).

If you can install it then you need to generate a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) and take it with you (lines of text) when you go to buy your cert. You provide the CSR, pay your money, and you get the cert e-mailed to you (lines of text again). Then you 'import' the cert in your web hosting control panel, and get your host to reboot apache on that server. Then you enable_ssl in both configure.php files, enter your https_server address and https_cookie_domain and https_catalog_path and you're there (barring accidents).

www.ev1servers.net provides a Geotrust Express SSL cert for $49 a year.
