Adding taxes messes up my pricing! pls help!

I have followed all the necessary procedures on adding state taxes for California, Utah, and Arizona to my products. I have added the tax zones and the tax class and the tax rates to each specific state. Whenever I try to add these taxes to my products using "Easy Populate" contribution and by adding "Taxable Goods" into the column on my spreadsheet I notice when all is submitted that my pricing decreases by about 15-20%! Why is this? Any ideas? It seems the customers get all excited because they seem we are offering a huge discount on our products! Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
