Hello people

Could someone please recommend a good contribution for the 404.php so i can change the look of it.

I have looked around the contribution, area but for some reason could not find one.

Many thanks

I use this one because it makes alternative product suggestions:

Product not found...BUT

But there is also a simpler custom error page approach in this one:

Product Not Found - Link Option

Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database.

Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.

well, those contributions are for when a product is not found.

A 404 is when a page is not found.

That one you need to activate via you webserver directives.

You can then simply make a page called 404.php and 403.php and have the server redirect to those when those errors occur.

Actually the one I use takes care of that. It does use the apache directives.

Example 1. A nonsensical inbound like this is given a custom error page without product suggestions:

yada yada yada

Example 2. A url that might come from an out of date link but does contain terms that relate to products on the site generates the error page with product suggestions:

URL with a product related text in it

Interestingly, I just caught a typo (actually an omited word) that has been unnoticed before. And I think I am going to reword the message now that it has been a while since the site remodel. So I am glad this thread gave me reason to review that page.
