NerioDavid
this contri is not too complex to install. and I read all the document. I'm sure i install it correctly, but it simply not work. my admin's catalog section has the Easy Populate link, and when i click it, the page was loaded fine. It can download the tab delimited text file, but as soon as i upload the same file(yea, not to modify anything), hit the insert into db button, it does nothing but back this page. I also has loaded6 installed on my test pc, since it already has easy Easy Populate installed, so i tried to use it, it works fine. it seems the loaded6 has additonal files included such as easypopulate.phpa, easypopulate_basic.php. i browsed through this forum tried to find what i did wrong, but what i found is at least they can run this contri and display some error messages, but mine is nothing. I use the latest version of oscommerce, and i use the default configuration to test the easy populat. there are no more the 50 sample products, and i'm on winnt2000 server with apache2.0.52+php4.3.10+mysql4.0.23. and about the excel change the format of the date, how to prevent it to doing so. BTW i'm use excel2003. If my question is to dumb, sorry to bother you guys. I just desperately want to get this to work, cause I already have a live site built with osCommerce, and the number of the products is huge, i can't image if i have to change every product manually

Guest
most likely you have your temp path set incorreclty for use with w2k3. for the date, dont edit the file in excel spreadsheet mode, edit it in text mode. many make the mistake thinking they need to edit in spreadsheet mode. this contri is not too complex to install. and I read all the document. Guest
if your path in easypopulate.php says /catalog/temp/ and it doesnt work, then something wrong with your host server . .. or your document root wrong in admin/includes/configure.php. post that here. NerioDavid
if your path in easypopulate.php says /catalog/temp/ and it doesnt work, then something wrong with your host server . ..or your document root wrong in admin/includes/configure.php. post that here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Something wrong with my host server? um, interesting. but i think there is no other reason maybe. I set my apache server's document root to "E:\MyWesites" ( I know not 'MyWebsites', just i missing a 'b' when i first configure my host server, but it is the right path, works fine) , and under my server's document root, there are folders like "catalog01", "catalog02", "catalog03", "os_blue_rounded", etc. I installed EP on the catalog01. So, the easypopulate.php says /catalog01/temp/. BTW, there are two var: $tempdir and $tempdir2, I set them all to /catalog01/temp. And in my admin/includes/configure.php, the document root set to "define('DIR_FS_DOCUMENT_ROOT', 'E:/MyWesites/catalog01/');", I think it was right. When I upload EP file, in admin, it says " File uploaded. Temporary filename: C:\WINNT\TEMP\php171.tmp User filename: EP2005Feb24-0909.txt Size: 24384 " Then nothing. This, i don't know whether it is right or not. The problem is, if indeed, there is something wrong on my host server, how can i know what is wrong? As to the date, how can i set the excel to text mode? Every time i opened the file with excel, it automatically change the date field's format before i do ang edit on other field :( . Guest
your document root does not end with catalog01 the way to check is to go to your tools/server info and search for document root. it makes no difference where your catalog is, document root is the path to the root of your web server. JimBarry
I finally found the problem. The contribution details the catalog folder spelled as "catalog". My server had it spelled as "catalogue". Made the changes to the easypopulate folder and it all uploaded. What I did was upload a text file to the temp directory. Then using the easypopulate.php page, I transferred from the temp to teh catalog. The reuslts weren't quite right. But I figure a day of editing is better that 4 weeks of copy/paste...copy/paste per single entry. What happened was the majority were added ok, some were updated. Not sure on the update status but I think it has to do with the product already being listed in the online catalog and I uploaded it again (possibly listing a duplicate in another category). As well, some of the model #'s now show as calander dates, example, model shuld be 11-302, but it appears as Nov-26 (as an example only). That's one reason I have to go in and edit. The other issue was I was placing the majority of the items in second level categories. I listed in the txt file I uploaded the name of the sub-category, but the upload process took each of these and created new top level categoires. So now I have copies of some of the categories. Any older products previously in the online catalogue before this upload still appear in teh sub-cat but all the new product (which should have appeared in these sub-cats) now appear in their own top level categories. Some editing and moving to do. So my first attempt at uploading, while not perfect, I figure is a general success. Guest
to create a product via ep in a sub category, you still need to list the name of the top level category. what you can do is download your site into a text file again, delete the products and upload the file. make sure you back up the database first. then everything will go into the right spots. Guest
Hello, I had easypopulate working in one site but when I tried to upload the complete database, deleting all the sample products I had before I found that no products are shown. I can see the categories and subcategories in both admin and frontend but when it comes to products I cannot see them although they are uploaded. I can see the products count (number of products in every category) and also through phpMyAdmin. They are all 'Active' and quantity is '1' What's happening? Guest
I just checked the 'products_description' table through phpMyAdmin and it shows 0 rows :( Did I miss something? I uploaded the txt file as usual... is there anything I can do or I'll have to delete all products again and start over again? Thanks. Guest
Nevermind... problem solved! I spotted where was my problem... in my new spreadsheet the product name was in the column 'v_products_name_1' and as my store doesn't have english language the number assigned to the language had to be another one... just in case anyone gets stuck at this point... :)
NerioDavid
your document root does not end with catalog01 the way to check is to go to your tools/server info and search for document root. it makes no difference where your catalog is, document root is the path to the root of your web server. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> First, if my test host server, which is my localhost, document root must end with catalog01, then how can i set up multiple sites on my machine? Second, I went to my tools/server info and searched for document root, on my localhost and my live store server, there is no such thing called document root on the "info" page. Third, there is a weird thing is that on my local win2000 host, on the tools/server info page, the server os and the server up time field is blank. I only tested the EP on my localhost, because i want to make sure everything is ok first then to make some change on my live store. So, EP doesn't work on my localhost, since I haven't installed it on my live store, whether it'll work or not I don't know. By the way, I host my store on ixwebhosting. I truly wish somebody can help me to figure out what going on with my installation of EP.

aspx_dev
I am trying to use easy populate on a website with shared hosting, so have Globals turned off in the php.ini file and can do nothing about it. The buttons on the easy populate page are not active when globals are turned off in the php.ini file. I have used the register globals contribution so osCommerce now works fine, and there is a section of the register globals contribution the assists a little bit, and activates the easy populate download button, but the upload button still does not work, and the split function also does nothing. I need to upload 800 products to my Dad's site so really need to use the upload facility. How can I use the easy populate contribution with the globals set to off in the php.ini file. Perhaps someone can add any changes that are necessary to the easy populate contribution.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> This MAY help: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=108825&hl=
wadster
:'( I'm having a problem getting the link for EasyPopulate to show up in my catalog page. I can type the location url, mydomainname.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/admin/easypopulate.php, into my address bar, and the page comes up fine. Any ideas on how to make the link show up? Thanks in advance.

wadster
Don't know if this is what your asking about or not: $tempdir = "/catalog/temp/"; $tempdir2 = "/catalog/temp/";
wadster
This is the code from the top of the easypopulate.php file: <?php // Current EP Version $curver = '2.74-MS2'; /* $Id: easypopulate.php,v 2.74 2004/05/03 VJ Exp $ */ // //******************************* //******************************* // C O N F I G U R A T I O N // V A R I A B L E S //******************************* //******************************* // **** Temp directory **** // if you changed your directory structure from stock and do not have /catalog/temp/, then you'll need to change this accordingly. // $tempdir = "/catalog/temp/"; $tempdir2 = "/catalog/temp/";
mark754
I'm about to use EP for the first time and have simple question. I know that EP can have problems when many product attributes are being used, especially when trying to create new attributes in the EP file. My question is, when downloading an EP file, will EP capture all attribute settings that had previously been inputted via the OSC control panel (i.e. for products added manually)? Or does it have trouble with these as well? I'd like to avoid problems. Also, is it possible to just add new products via EP and not have to download the entire product listing and having it completely overwritten? One more question - is there a way to easily identify and delete outdated product photos from the server that are no longer being used in the catalog? Thanks.
