Easy Populate & Products Attributes

I'm having a little trouble with Easy Populate (2.76c-MS2) too.

First, I installed the Add Fields contribution (several times), following the instuctions VERY carefully.

The file exports fine, but, when I go to import the editted file, I get the following

No errors at all, but, it will only update the first item. If I go into the file I'm uploading, and delete the first entry, it will install the next item correctly as a new product and will continue adding entries as new products as long as I delete the previous item in the upload file, but, just the first one.

If you'll notice on the items that don't get uploaded (this is a partial list, but all the other items look the same) the first or first and second numbers of the item are duplicated after a space (depending on the item number length).

I've gone through the process, from scratch, of installing EP and the Add Fields contributions, several times and it's becoming somewhat annoying. The result is always exactly the same.

Anyone a) seen this before and B) know how to fix it?

I posted this yesterday to the wrong forum. :-"

Gad, I hope someone can help me out here. I could add products one at a time, but my wits would be gone soon. And there are SO many pages in this forum! It would take me months to read each post - and that's what it would take since my problem is so vague.

I installed EP v2.8-MS2 (and just about every other version, too, and I get the same problem no matter the version of EP)

I downloaded a full EP data file into MS Excel, deleted all rows but one (for testing), changed the one product's model number and name, saved to tab-delimited .txt file and attempted upload back into EP.

I get:

But there is no new product. Some time ago, when I first installed EP (last year some time), I got the long list of products being uploaded and processed. This time there is none of that - just the little message quoted above.

And does anyone have a fix for me?

I've been playing with OSC since 2003, but I'm not a PHP wiz - although OSC has taught me quite a bit of PHP and SQL. Awesome!

I'm just going to suggest a workaround, because I really don't know that much about it...After completing the upload, have you then tried to "Import from Temp Dir"? This may work for you.

I also need to change the location of the temp file, since my store doesn't sit on any subfolders (it's right on the root). I see

No, I'm afraid that it's a tab-delimited file and I did convert all the commas to dashes between sending this file and getting your response, but, merely as an esthetic thing.

I didn't see anything immediately wrong with the data file either and, for me, looking through code for the EP contrib (not being a programmer, of course) didn't reveal any reason why it would get to the end of a line and then choke.

As I mentioned, if I go to the text file, after it imports the first item, delete that item, import again, it will import the item correctly and then choke at the end of that line with no stated errors.

I got the Canada Post with Dimensions to work correctly (even got it to add handling as a percentage of the shipping cost) and I got PayPal IPN to work correctly (had to smack it around a bit) and I even got Canada Post VCD Importer to work, even though it was written for an earlier version of OsC, so, I'll (eventually) get EP to work, even though I had to modify it to take the extra fields that Canada Post with dimensions needed, if I have to learn PHP and re-write the damn thing from scratch LOL

I may never get my store on-line, but, all the contributions will work!!!!!!

Want to look through all the EP code now? :D

Yes, if I use the "import item - delete item from text file - import next item" routine that I mentioned earlier, I can (and have) imported about 30 items.

I exported them, cut and pasted the remainder from the file I uploaded here recently into the new exported file, tried to import that one and the exact same thing happened.

Ok, I see what you mean.

When I export what I have in the store, and import it into Excel, it looks correct with all the right info in all the right columns.

However, when I try to import the text file back in through EP (both from the original download, or saved out from Excel), the same thing happens. It will update the first item and then choke

double check your single quotes/double quotes open close patterns, something looks weird from the date_added, where you dont have the double quote after the single one at teh begining of the line.

Yeah, you'd think so, wouldn't you?

The fields I added were;

products_weight_type

products_dim_type

products_length

products_width

products_height

products_ready_to_ship

BTW, I just added 6 items, totally manually, through the admin panel, downloaded it through EP, flipped it into Excel, checked the column information against the ones I put in through EP (one at a time) and it's all in the right columns.

So, it comes out right, it just doesn't go back in right, unless it's "import - delete - import", one at a time.

yes I think so, because I've done it on several sites with a version 2.9 with no problem.

Let me know if providing my ep file could help as an example, if you are willing to use a 2.9

I've had this happen to me too way back, and I'm racking my brain trying to remember what it was. One thing I can think of to try for grins is to remove the commas from your product description in the first item, and see if the import then makes it through to the second item before puking.
