File-naming Limitations - A UNIX file or directory name can have as many as 256 characters, but cannot contain the following characters: [ ] ( ) & @ ! ....

your temp directory path in your EP file should be /catalog/temp/

your path for the image should be fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis kompakt/halado amator/E8700f.jpg

this sets up a relative path to the image when uploading.

v_products_model | v_products_image | v_products_name_5

NIKDCX032 | fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis kompakt/halado amator/E8700f.jpg | Nikon CoolPix 8700

As u can see I didnt use those chars in the EP file.

I upload the EP file from my local PC from a different folder then /catalog/temp/ I use that "browse and insert into db" feature at the top of the EP window in admin. It works fine at this time.

Also, try not to have space between words in the path name. Instead, use the ' _ ' as a space character.

I'll try to use "_" instead space. I'll will inform you about the results.

Hello,

Please forgive me for posting this yet again... I have tried posting in installation support and in contribution support, but I was redirected time and again. I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong location yet again...

I am encountering a problem in that Easy Populate is installed and will correctly create files export files for me to study containing the stock products and categories, however when I try to do a import of even a single product it says merely:

File uploaded.

Temporary filename: /tmp/php0gysa7

User filename: annoy.csv

Size: 3151

I have made sure there are no incorrect tabs (tab delimited of course) and have even removed all quotation marks as openoffice decided to add them around text. I tried downloading a Model/Price/Quantity file and just adding a single product to the ones there per instructions in the manual... no luck... same error

Below is an example of the file I am trying to upload...

v_products_model v_products_name_1 v_products_description_1 v_products_price v_categories_name_1 v_categories_name_2 v_categories_name_3 v_status EOREOR

Z52 SHIATSU EXERCISES FOR HORSE & RIDER (3 PART HARMONY) While learning to work on their horses, students become more aware of the subtleties of their horses' bodies, thus expanding the bond between horse and human, and also learn more about their own bodies by moving from their centres in a relaxed, graceful manner that, again, serves to strengthen and stretch the body of the practitioner. 24.99 Equestrian ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES & MANAGEMENT - VIDEOS, CDs, CASSETTES ETC. 85.1 Active EOREOR

I thought that perhaps I had to totally copy the output EP makes with a full export, but even when I tried that it didn't make changes...

The only anomoly I can think of is that when I tried to follow instructions for installation I moved the admin folder from catalog/admin to /topsecret/. However after the web configuration and following more instructions everything seems to be working fine. I can use the admin tools to change prices and all that...

Thanks for the help,

Scott

what happens if you download an ep file first, then overlay your data from your sheet into that file and then try to upload that file? keeping the same name format?

double check the apostropohes you have used, usually require a \ before them

I'm learning how to use EP...I saved the tab_limited_text file locally, then opened it in Excel. The problem is, there's only one image field in the table, whereas the product data, inputted previously via the admin panel, uses multiple images. I uncommented the "v_products_bimage", "v_products_mimage" etc., in the admin/ep file, and tried downloading the file again, but the additional image fields still don't show up. What am I missing? Thanks.

i had to modify that by adding the fields in, if you go back maybe 5 pages or so, there is a partial file posted there showing where the additional fields are added.

I hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I've just downloaded easypopulate. When I go to "Create files in temp/dir" easypopulate thinks about it for a moment and tells me that

"You can get your file in the Tools/Files under /catalog/temp/EPEP2004Jul23-1806.txt"

However, I can't because there's nothing in /catalog/temp, even when I check it in Widows Explorer.

What's going on?

John(Mibble) I found this in another thread...........................

why not just do it the other way around, figure out what the fields are for your manufacturer, then overlay a header file with the correct ep names (which correspond to the osCommerce fields) and then you are done . . almost anyway. you still need to layout the txt file to match all the way in, else you could have corrupted data, something going one way while it is supposed to go that way.

now if you have other questions on EP, post at the END of the support thread........

Are you saying all I have to do is change the header row to match the field names in easy populate........ example column 17 is the vendors quantity so I would name that column v_products_ quantity.

Thanks for any help you can give.

yes, it would be much easier to do that, and also rearrange the columns to the same way they download from the easypopulate program. you can do all this with a vbscript or macro, whichever you prefer, so when your customer downloads the file, he presses the key combo you have setup for the macro/script then run the ep upload.

When I tried to use easy populate with s/m/l and ezier new fields contribs I used the contrib for adding new fields...but kept running into problems. I don't know, maybe that contrib needs to be updated or something because what actually happened when I followed the instruction is that my retail_price field was mucking up the data after it. I don't know exactly how I fixed it but I did. I read somewhere that the order of the fields in easypopulate.php played a major role so I moved a few things and now it works like a charm.

I don't kow if anybody needs this or not but if somebody thinks I should wrap it up and contribute it or post the code here, please let me know. I hate to clutter up contrib pages and I don't want to post a whole file here unless someone asks.

Cant get easy populate to work with quantity price breaks. Does anyone have any easypopulate already working with the quantity price break contribution, could you pm me your easypopulate.php file so I can try to get it working for my site. Any help appreciated. I found a thread talking about this but I cannot get the gentlemens advice to work with my file and he doesnt mention what version he is using so I cant really even troubleshoot with such limited information. Thanks in advance.

Ya I would like to have it also! With individual shipping if possible!

Thanks again!

I know that EP works with both qty price break and individual shipping, as I had helped someone modify it awhile back. I do not have the file and do not remember who it was, as it was quite awhile ago. your best bet is to make sure ep works properly first, then go in and modify the code adding one field at a time making sure it still works. should take probably 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending upon how many fields you are adding.

for v8, try turning off attributes, setting it to false and then do not download but create the temp file in your temp directory on the server. once that is complete, you can download it. a word of caution on uploading a file over 2 meg, most hosts have max upload filesize to 2 meg, unless you get a host who will change the php.ini file. i know i change mine all the time, depending upon what i am doing.

as far as the ezier new fields, you can make a text file showing what needs to be modified, also take a generic easypopolate.php file and make the changes there, then upload that file with your text file. that way all someone has to do is use a code compare program (they work great and cut down on development time by the way) and merge their file with your copy.

I am looking for some advice on the correct usage of Easypopulate.

Here is the scenario :

===============

We have over 250 vendors. Most of them send MS Excel price lists regularly.

We need to update the product prices from time to time and we need to add

new products to the database regularly. We are several users that would like to update the OSC product database via the web user interface in the Admin/Catalog panel but the most frequent use will be batch updated via the Easypopulate contrib.

Important : We need to RETAIN (not loose) the info that has been edited via the web interface and still be able to import and update the same products via the Easy populate module.

We were thinking about a workflow like this :

==============================

1) Import a lot of products with Easypopulate

2) Do casual editing on the fly via web user interface- Catalog/admin

(several users are going to do the editing, but not at the same time).

3) Export the products via Easypopulate back into Excel format

4) Do additions and alterations to the products and re import them into the OSC database (back to step1)

How can we export the products back from Easypopulate and re import them into Excel, still matching the product numbers that exist already (the product ID that will be the unique ID).

See, we do need to retain the same product numbers on the products that are in the Excel spreadsheet already, but add any new. We have autogenerated a product number series already starting from 200000 and moving continuously upwards.

Any tricks / hints on how you pro's do this ???

Regards

Morten

Anyone had this before? I have been adding attributes via ep to my store when all of a sudden no more can be added, they are going into the sql just that osc stops showing them.

Anythoughts I have also tried to edit the attributes in admin but they still wont show but they are there.

Thx in advance from anyone who can throw light on this one.

Yes you can get your file from your server hosted by your hosting company.

You need to connect to your server using any FTP client. Then go to the folder /catalog/temp and voila...

Also, try not to have space between words in the path name. Instead, use the ' _ ' as a space character.

I tried without any success!

There is still something with that 64 charater limit. I dont know what's wrong if I exceed the 64 char limit. I added two character to exceed the 64 charachter barrier in the xls file:

Original: fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis_kompakt/halado_amator/E8700f.jpg

Modified: fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis_kompakt/halado_amator/E8700fff.jpg

I modified the filename at the server too to match the database.

I uploaded the modified txt file via EP. Then the product image failed to appear at the product listing page. When I export the file from EP again I saw that the image path cutted at 64 character:

fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis_kompakt/halado_amator/E8700fff.j

I discovered one more thing:

This 64 char. thingy can be seen at my shop: http://www.eware.hu/catalog/index.php/cPath/1_34_45

at 9th line: Microsoft Black Value Pack Win32 (PS/2) (Microsoft Multimedia Ke

somehow the product name was cutted. I checked the original xls file and the product filename was untouched with full lenght.

But there is no such limitation at the v_products_description column.

Hmm!

Maybe some wrong php setting or EP caused this cut?

Andrew

you didnt state before the 64 character limit for your product, you stated it was for the path to your images. however i did look in the database, you will need to modify your table to increase the field length if you want longer ones.

you are putting too much info in for a model #, doing way too much overkill. have a basic title that when someone finds it or if you get google to index your site, that will make it easier for you to be found by someone typing in a few certain things. too much detail can be a killer. save that for the description field.

Yes I didnt bec. I discovered it now. :)

 Please calm me down, you are looking in your database not in my? I believe sql databases are in a secure place on the server.

Where should I modified the table? In the xls file?

The product names will shortened after I upload the txt file via EP. The Original xls and the saved as txt file has the full lenght.

you are putting too much info in for a model #,

I used some modified code to display the product name with model# instead only the model#. :)

Model# table columns contains max. 10 char. As I posted earlier:

v_products_model | v_products_image | v_products_name_5

NIKDCX032 | fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis kompakt/halado amator/E8700f.jpg | Nikon CoolPix 8700

I use excel for some editing but I found that importing the file into MS Access is better. You can make a table then edit. You can add fields or take them away & sort the records. Then export into tab deliminated. Excell can have problems with converting to tab deliminatin. (I know!)

You can save each file as a table with your customers name etc. then as they send you new data just import it into the existing table. Then export as tab deliminated. You can have groups of vendors in different data bases.

i did look in "THE" database you probably need to understand, there are tons of databases out there of osCommerce and i will have tons to play with.

as in a prior post this will not work:

fenykepezogepek/nikon/digitalis kompakt/halado amator/E8700f.jpg you have spaces in between the names . do yourself a favor, and rename these to something less lengthy. why do you have fenykep... /nikon/digitalis . and so on, why not nikon/digital/dkha/e8700f.jpg or something even shorter.

we told you no spaces in the paths, etc as that does kind of mess things up . . .

jerry, for your problem read a few pages back in the thread, there are questions you need to post here for us, as far as what your document_root path is, where your temp directory is, what the permissions are, etc. please read the documentation and the most important thing to do when using easypopulate is to read the easypopulate.php program top to bottom, as there is a lot of information in there.
