Streamline the checkout process

Hello

I'm hoping someone has the answer to this question. Is there

a way for my customers to use the Buy Now buttons and go

directly to the checkout process, without having to fill out three

pages of registration information? I only want to use the

shopping cart as a purchasing tool to handle the payment process.

Can the oscommerce shopping cart function this way?

Kind regards

Seth

Stock osCommerce doesn't allow for that but there is a contribution Purchase Without An Account that will allow your customers to by-pass the account creation process. You might also want to view Ross Gillette's addition to this contribution as it completely removed the create an account feature.

Are you not shipping anything? How about a billing address, do you need that?

You can easily skip the login screen, and the create_account_success page, but it's a little more difficult to get it shorter than that. There's a contribution to 'skip' the shipping method page, if you do not have any shipping, or if your shipping fee is always fixed. That may help some.

Umm, not exaclty. The PWA removes the account from the database AFTER the customer has purchased. The customer still hase to go through the create account process, only bypassing the 'Create Account Success" page.

Also, the addtion the you mention only bypasses the 'login' screen, not the create account process.

Okay now that I have the PWA uploaded & set up I would like to change the color attributes for the formArea's so it matches the rest of the shopping cart.

I know what you're saying, but you're thinking like a programmer - not a store owner. :P

What PWA does, is allow the customer to checkout without creating an account, so they fill out their shipping information, confirm the order and their done. They did not create an account.

I know they technically still did, but to most people who dont understand programming, it by-passes the login screen and allows them to just put in their shipping info and be on their way.

No, I'm thinking like a storeowner.

Having my customers demographic information in my database for future reporting is vital to making business decisions.

Also, you can 'mask' your checkout process, and skip just as many pages of the checkout by making a couple of very, very small changes. The PWA by default actually scares EVEN MORE customers away than the regular checkout, because they are confronted by a login screen that has 3 choices on it that all look like they do the same thing! Decisions and confusion like this are what makes customer change their mind about ordering.

AND, with the customer not being able to 'log in' the their account, I can't draw customers back to the store post-order for things like 'tracking their package'.

Don't get me wrong, the stock osC checkout has alot of problems, but the PWA contribtuion only makes things worse.

Nice Article! Point taken about PWA. I just recently installed PWA so I was going to wait out and see how many people use it, rather then creating an account, and then if it was popular enough I would use Ross Gillette's addition to completely remove the login/create account screen. I didnt think losing customer accounts would be too big of a deal as you still have all the invoices with customer information, but you're right, having them in a database is sooo much sexier. :P

I'll have to re-think this and perhaps go in the direction you layed out in your article.
