neophyte101
Hi there! Have futura book font in a file on my computer (but not installe there) that I'd like to use for my catalog. I recall someone telling me that I have to provide it to the end-user, since most computers don't have the font. How does one go about doing that? Tks in advance for any and all help. COOLumbia
Hi there!I have to provide it to the end-user, since most computers don't have the font. Would you visit a store that said "Before you can see this website, you must download and install this software"? I'd pass it up in a hurry and go on to the next store. neophyte101
Thanks for the sarcastic welcome. :-" For you fellow newbies out there, someone gave me some useful info to help me understand the fonts: You CAN choose the font you want to use by listing it first in the stylesheets. Then separating by commas, provide alternate font selections (2 at least) that are more common like Verdana & Arial for browsers that don't support your preferred choice. No need to upload anything into Oscommerce.

You can put it in the stylesheet all you want but no one will see it unless they've also installed that font. If he doesn't have the font on his computer, then the browser will pick the next one in the list in the style sheet that you mentioned. It that font is not present it will go to the next and so on. If it doen't find the fonts in your list on his computer, it will use his default font. This is usually arial although it can be set to anything a person wants to set it to. The result is that your web page probably won't look at all like you want it to. In fact, it will probably look terrible. That's why most web sites just use the standard fonts in their code: Verdana and Arial and maybe Tahoma. If you decide to base your site on some special font, do yourself a favor and view it from someone else's computer to see how it looks first. I hope this helps clear it up. By the way, welcome to the forum. You'll find that people are usually quite helpful and respectful. Jack Many thanks Jack, you just inadvertantly saved me time and money buying a font to upload tot the server. I thought if it was uploaded to the fonts folder it would show in the users browser....Obviously not. Wish I'd known this before I designed my site with the rather rare OCR - A extended font!!! :'( Thanks again!!
