Files on a remote server with Downloads Controller

Thanks to Tom and his points in the right direction I managed to get Downloads Controller to work fully.

However, I have another question! Is it possible to get Downloads Controller to serve links from a remote server?

For example, the store offers an electronic product. However, this is not stored on the same server as the store.

I've tried using a standard http://www.url.com/file.zip link but it doesn't seem to like it.
