Theme Design

Hello everyone, I would like to create my own theme for OScommerce. I know HTML very well, CSS fairly well but I barely know anything about php. Do I need to know php very well to make a KICK A$$ theme or can I do it without knowing it. I tried once but am getting lost and don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for any help.

That I understand but I would like to change the overal look such as number of columns...width contraints.....row height....is that in the stylesheet.

Thanks Tree...I look for the supporting but if you find any more concrete information post back here.

P.S. If and when I do finish the theme, I'll post it for everyone.
