International via USPS defaults to Global Express

This is the strangest thing. I have a customer that wants me to ship by USPS. Not a problem - I have the USPS module installed. I ran a test transaction and saw the different postage calculations come up; I thought it was fine.

Well, they select a shipment type of Airmail Letter Post (the package weighs less than one pound), enter their credit card information and go to the confirmation page. The page now shows Global Express. Huh?

OK, maybe it was a mistake. Go to Edit shipping, choose Airmail again, enter their credit card information and go to the confirmation page. The page still shows Global Express. Hmmm.

Trying a new approach - edit shipping to UPS, enter credit card information and go to the confirmation page. The page now shows UPS. Hey, we're getting somewhere.

Go back to Edit shipping, choose Airmail again, enter their credit card information and go to the confirmation page. The page shows Global Express.

How do I debug this? It only seems to happen with international. Domestic shipments calculate just fine.

It took a lot of searching, wading through multiple posts and jumping around from thread to linked thread... and I found this:

Dear USPS customer,

The International Rates API engine was recently updated which in turn led to

some unexpected changes to the XML values we respond with.  Below are the

affected SvcDescription Strings and what they are now being returned as:

Global Priority Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (large)  IS NOW Global Priority

Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (Large)

Global Priority Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (small)  IS NOW Global Priority

Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (Small)

Global Priority Mail - Variable Weight (single)  IS NOW Global Priority

Mail - Variable Weight (Single)

Airmail Letter Post  IS NOW Airmail Letter-post

Economy (Surface) Letter Post IS NOW Economy (Surface) Letter-post

These changes will affect your shopping cart's ability to parse through the

list of possible international services.  Please verify/modify your parsing

selections to reflect these changes in order to ensure accurate parsing and

the display of all available options to your end customer.

This fixed the problem.

Thank you everyone who replied.
