fut
I'd like to hear your guys opinions in which modules I should install that you feel are very helpful for SEO reasons. Obviously one would be SE Friendly URLs, but which one do you guys suggest works best? Any others that you feel are very helpful? Thanks.
♥Vger
If you use Ultimate Search Engine Friendly URL's then stick to using cPaths, otherwise you could have problems elsewhere. Do not try to use the Search Engine Friendly URL's that come by default with osCommerce under Configuration - they won't work. The other mod to add would definitely be Header Tags Controller. There are other mods which allow you to dynamically generate meta tags, but I prefer this version where you add your own tags as you add products. If you want to optimise them later on then you can just go back and edit them. Vger
wizardsandwars
Since content is the single most important factor in SEO, I'd also include one of the product short description in product listing contribtuions, as well as the dynamic category header and descriptions. You should also include either a google sitemap, or allrpods contribution. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: As of Oct 2006, I'm not as active in this forum as I used to be, but I still work with osC quite a bit. If you have a question about any of my posts here, your best bet is to contact me though either Email or PM in my profile, and I'll be happy to help. airuma
I've been looking for a way to make my site more search engine friendly and I am finding A LOT of contributions on that. I have the header tags already up and going (love it by the way), and I am about to add the Ultimate URL contribution by Chemo. I found this SEO Sitemap contribution. Is that a good idea to have? http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2076

I'd like to warn you however there are 2 contributions to AVIOD maybe more that state SEO. There's a sitemap that has a javascript to direct robots to a seperate sitemap than customers this I beleive has already got someone banned from yahoo. Is search engine illegal. Also someone on an all products page updated a contribution with making the link invisible (cloaked) to customers but not spiders. Be weary. Anything that shows spiders something other than you're showing your customers can get you blacklisted.

This was exactly the javascript contribution I was wondering about. I knew it sounded fishy so I decided to ask. Glad I did. So, just the Ultimate URLs and the Header tags should work right? Thanks again
Guest
I completely agree with misterbling. A good site map is the one by Chemo - Google XML Sitemap or something like that. I'd use that in conjunction with a regular site map though. Good luck.

Thanks again <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This All Products ontribution does not hide anything from the SE's and should be included in your site. Also the Dynamic Sitemap (see my signature) should be used.
