Anya
Hi everybody, I am new here and actually new to the e-commerce world not to the online business and seo. I have a designer who is doing my personal art site where I will be selling my abstract, contemporary paintings, the prices will vary in between 1000$-4000$. So I made sure that he'll make a friendly e-commerce site, with no SID, static pages, friendly shopping cart(static, secure...) Now my problem is finding the right keywords I will optimize my site for, I need targeted traffic, word art is so wode and It will take me too long to get to the top 10, I thought about abstract art, around 30 thousand searches a month, but I am not too sure, I looked for terms like buy art, buy abstract art and very few typing those terms maybe 50 a month... I really need some directions from people who already are in the art or other business. I cannot optimize for my paintings names obviously as nobody knows about them, not like selling nike, addidas etc Please if anybody could advise me on how to make the site more friendly, some tips on how to optimize e-commerce and how should I choose my terms. Thanks a lot, you guys great...! :P

AllTheAbove
Well, I cannot give advice on the business side, but I can on the consumer side. If I was looking for new art to purchase, I would search for terms relating to the type of art. Such as Oil painting, Watercolors, Chalk, charcoal etc.. Contemporary, Modern, Antiqued, collectable etc Also, whether your work was inspired by a famous artist would be helpful so if I wanted something that looked like a Picasso but couldn't afford it, I might search for "Picasso Inspired". Maybe also what your subjects are. Still-life, nature scenes, portraits etc including in there that they are abstract. I hope my view as a consumer helped even a tiny bit. I really haven't delved into the whole keyword thing yet as I am still trying to get my site to function properly. Lori

Lori <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I do expire myself from life, experiences, feelings etc not from any other artist, I cannot optimize for terms that nobody is looking for, thats the problem the terms you mentioned are not much used to buy art, my paintings are acrylic on canvas so there is maybe around 30 a month looking for acrylic paintings etc
Jack_mcs
I think you may be overthinking it. Pick the one that most closely resembles your product line and has a large enough number of searches. Optimize the home page for that. Then pick the less searched for, but specialty terms as mentioned above, and create a page for it. There should only be 2-3 keyords per page. But for the site, the number is unlimited. Try to find sites that sell similar products as you do and tehn see what keyword they are using. If Word Art is the ideal keyphase but you can't use it due to the number of searches, try a variation like "discount word art" or something that applies to you. Google will still show itin searches for word art, although probably not as high on the list.
