EP File upload

Guest

Recommended Posts

hello have easypopulate installed ( by a friend) but have a bit of trouble getting this one.

i am setting up a computer store, does anybody have a small file(product file) that i could view( small piece) just to have a better understanding of what to try and do. i have viewed the test file but ( &^$$ bugger me , hard to get my head around that straight away.) does the file have to be txt or can it be xls or csv.

Also i have only installed the contributions

:back button in buy now page

:osCommerce MS2 HTML WYSIWYG Editor, Product Desc, Email +_files

i have manually installed some products and categories but this takes to long (2000+ products and categories) so wish to try EP.

Also do you need to remove all former products and categories before using this , and is it advisable to have pictures in specific folders when uploading .

thanxs for the help but obviously not a techie, but find it easier to learn by getting it going with help then breaking it down. i have viewed the test file but ( &^$$ bugger me , hard to get my head around that straight away.

thanxs

you need to use a .txt file set at tab delimited when saving.

you can keep all of your current categories and products, make a backup beforehand if you are worried about losing any information.

if you upload a product through EP in the same category with the same information, it will merely update the existing file.

as for creating the .txt file:

place each of the following along the top of a spreadsheet (each should have its own column)

v_products_model

v_products_image

v_products_name_1

v_products_description_1

v_products_price

v_products_weight

v_date_avail

v_products_quantity

v_manufacturers_name

v_categories_name_1

v_categories_name_2

v_categories_name_3

v_categories_name_4

v_date_added

v_date_avail

v_tax_class_title

v_status

EOREOR

Now, place your product model number in the first column, underneat the first variable title. (v_product_model).

For the images, EP will call images from http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/catalog/images (or wherever your oscommerce install is located).

If you use multiple languages, you will need v_product_name_2, and so forth, as well as for your product descriptions.

For the categories, I believe you can have up to 7, remove or add more to the above if necessary.

For example:

Main Category

-> Sub-Category

--> Sub- Sub-Category

---> and so on.

In v_status, you will set the product to Active or Inactive.

The last column, EOREOR, you will need this at the end of each row in your spreadsheet. Simply fill down the column when you are done entering your date.

You can find any other answers in the manual included in the EP files.

Hope this helps!

there is a file which comes with the contribution.  you can also download a txt file from your own store.

Yeah thanxs Mibble, but was just getting a bit lost, seemed i was getting to much info in brain all at once.

CivicRacingGirl7 cleared a few things up for me and made it just a bit easier to understand.
