Hiya

I've never set an online shop up before, so with the help of my friends I now have the account set up with the default shop items, but how on earth do I create a shop with my own items as I have looked everywhere but am getting nowhere fast :'(

It's probably really straight forward, but everything I try brings up the default hardware, software and dvds and I need to change it to bike tyres!

I'll be eternally grateful for any help as the site is for some friends of my Dad's and they are nagging me at the length of time it's taking to get finished even though I have told them several times I don't know what I am doing but it falls on deaf ears

If your initial set up shop is online and running ok. Thats it!

You are now ready to start the real playing around.

I dont know what your url for your shop is but lets call it.

www.your-shop.com

If you goto:

www.your-shop.com/admin

This should bring up the admin panel where your can start to add, edit ect.

Have a look around and you should soon work out how to add: categories, sub-categories and items. Giving them attributes like cost ect.

My friend set the shop up and if I go to www.tyres4bikes.co.uk/catalog/index.php it's working but with the default settings although my friend's web designer has had a play and added one tyre to it.

All I want to be able to do is to set the shop up with the tyre information which is linked to the contents page of www.tyres4bikes.co.uk but the admin page may as well be in Japanese for all the sense it makes!

I am getting very frustrated and losing my patience with it as it's beyond my web designing skills and I hate things that make me feel stupid

to be able to change the categories and add products you have to go into the admin part. Then go to the catalog section.

As said, go to your 'admin' section, and click on the 'Catalog' link. You can rename existing categories if you like, to reflect what you want to sell, and then add products to the renamed categories.

I see from your website that you have been using the osCommerce File Manager to edit files - this is why you have the n's onscreen. Look at the "Psst?? Got a parse error??" link below my name for the correct way to edit files in osCommerce.
