zhulien
I have oscommerce running fine on my linux box. I have no need to use sendmail for myself as I use my ISP's smtp service. Why does everyone recommend using sendmail on linux? For me to do this, I have to setup sendmail which I have done but I can only send email between users on my own box (which is pointless as I never use them for anything). I use my ISP's smtp/pop3 server. Is there a way to configure oscommerce on my linux box to send emails via my ISP's smtp server? If not, is there something special that needs to be done to make sendmail talk to my ISP's smtp server? I've looked long and hard and all I can find out how to do is send email's locally within my box. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
zhulien
To be more specific about how I have my network setup... - pegasos 2 linux machine running debian sarge with oscommerce - netgear adsl modem with dyndns setup and redirection to the linux machine for http access - morphos machines and a Mac OSX machine which are my desktop machines which use an email client talking to my isp's SMTP/POP3 servers
♥Vger
Is there a way to configure oscommerce on my linux box to send emails via my ISP's smtp server? Wouldn't be any point in doing so. Mail sent like that would count as 'relayed' mail, and most incoming mail servers block 'relayed' mail these days as an anti-spam measure. Vger <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If I don't get sendmail to go via my ISP, I'll have to configure my email client to also look at my linux server to collect it and also I will lose the ability to read email on my ISP's website. I really don't want to have to configure my linux computer as though I was an ISP - all I want is a simple shop running with mysql and httpd (which so far is happening except for the sendmail problem). Are there any other ways to send an email via oscommerce perhaps using an email client via the commandline aliased as sendmail?
zhulien
does no-one here use oscommerce on their linux desktop? or do you use sendmail on your desktop?

I am not just talking about ones to myself, but ones to the person placing an order, ie: the user of oscommerce.
