Issues setting up SSL

Right now I have my SSL option turned to "false" to allow me to configure the store without errors. I've went into the /cpanel of my domain and generated keys for the following options: Private keys (KEY), Certificate Signing Requests (CSR), and Certificates (CRT). Exactly what else must I do to get SSL working on my store? It still shows that it is not enabled when I "true" it in the config file.

You need to have a static IP address, you can not use ssl on a shared IP address.

I found this post very helpful when I setup my SSL site.

I've read that as well. How is it a shared IP address? My domain name doesn't change and neither does the IP of my server.

Web hosting companies do not like to give 1 IP address per website, they use shared IP addresses for a number of websites, you need to confirm with your company that the IP address you have been allocated for your site is not a shared IP address, in SSL land all sites on the same IP address are treated the same so you can only have 1 SSL site per IP address. This may or may not be a problem for you. You must confirm before purchasing the SSL certificate.

OK, if you type the IP address of your server into your browser's address bar does your site pop up?

If so, you have a dedicated IP.

I see what you mean now by shared IPs. When I type in my TP, it does not go to my site. So, does that mean I cannot use the SSL on my site? I'm still waiting on an answer back from the hosting guy. There is an area in my /cpanel for the SSL options, but I'm not exactly sure how it works.

A dedicated IP is required if you want your own certificate, as in: https://www.tristanlee.com .

Also you are about to raise a self certificate with the cpanel facility - this will ALWAYS give browser errors because you do not have a trusted root - if you're a cynic this is worse than not having the cert as it alerts people that there is a problem and they don't like that - so for the marketer it is better to not have the self issued SSL cert than to have one that doesn't work

If you can afford it (and it only costs a few dollars for a 2 / 3 year cert ) get aproper cert as indicated in the thread you mentioned previously.

A few bucks? I searched and found $300 for 1 year. I must be looking in the wrong place.

I talked to the hosting guy and he set up SSL and I now have a dedicated IP (both www.plastikracing.net and my IP address go to my site). So, I've generated my: Private keys (KEY), Certificate Signing Requests (CSR), and Certificates (CRT) through the SSL manager of cpanel, but I'm still not able to get the website to work on https://...
