using offline on computer and online through serve

Hello,

first time user, long time listener.

I have been using perl for the last three years and am in search of a new shopping cart. oscommerce seems to be the one i want. but i am in need of help.

i read in the documentation that this shopping cart can be used offline on your computer...so here is my question:

my server used linux, i have windows on my computer. i want to be able to work on the shopping cart on my computer, so which do i use? linux or windows version. also, how do i get it working on my computer?

has anyone else gone from perl to php? is php easier than perl.

any help would be great
