Dumb Newbie Questions

Recommended Posts

Howdy, all. So far, so good. I got OSC installed with a mySQL back end and I"m storing the config files in the database. There are a few questions that I have, that hopefully someone can help with:

1) I made a mistake with my directory structure, and wish to relocate/rename the folder where OSC is installed. Is there an easy way to do this without reinstalling?

2) What are the post-install "housekeeping" chores that should be done? In other words, what file permissions should be verified to ensure security, and what things are there that are unnecessary and can be deleted, such as languages other than English that we might not be using?

3) What exactly does backing up the database do? Does it enable me to completely restore the store and its configurations and enviornment in a new place?

1. just create the new folder and copy all the oscommerce folders there, alter the location in your two configure files.

2. See other forums about this,

3. Does what it says on the can. It backsup your datebase, not your full store configuration. You have to create the store backup yourself, which you should do before altering any files anyway.

LOL! Steve, that's the funniest thing I've heard in a while. Thanks. It's been a stressful week, and I needed the laugh.

Hey, which 2 config files are we talking about? Can you give me their locations? I'm totally new at all this, and my head is spinning.

If you ask dumd questions you will get bumder answers. Always check the knowledge base and forums first, it saves you looking silly when you get a dumb answer.

Glad to have been some help though.
