How to Prevent Fraud

Following a read of some threads within the forum I thought it maybe a good idea to create a guide on tips and tricks to help stop you You and Your store getting caught by fraudsters.

 

Now I don't have all the answers so this thread is open to all to add techniques they use to prevent fraud - when there is a big list I will put it all in one document and put it in the contribution area with credits to All contributors.

To block IP addresses from certain countries you can try geo blocking:

There are two other contributions that will help identify fraud orders;

Credit Card Fraud Detection Service - Maxmind or Orders Fraud Screen for osCommerce.

That Orders Fraud Screen for osCommerce seems to be commercial. We loaded it to look at it and you only get 99 enquries before you have to buy a licence from that people that contrubuted it!

The AlgoZone contribution does require payment but it is $21.99 for 5,000 querries (orders), not a huge expense. We use AlgoZone because we could not get the Maxmind to work. I think it would not work because we don't store CC information on the site.

 

Maxmind is free up to 20 querries per day (I think), after that you have to pay them also.

I did not know that. Thanks for telling me . I will have to look at it more closely. Not that it is my money. But the client asked for Maxmind and we only installed the other one to have a look at it.
