Switching: question about Word Documents

I'm hours away from buying a PowerBook and making The Switch.

 

Will the Word and EXcel documents (from Office 2004) created on my PC be readable on the Apple? If I wish to continue using these, should I get Office for Mac?

 

I have lots of documents I use for work and want to make sure I can still use them when I Switch.
