startrekker Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Hi everyone.... we've recently re-done our webstore and added a new catalogue... we've had the store since early 2004 but only got it up and running this month!... I would apreciate any comments good or bad or any suggestions you may have about the site Please take a look and tell me what you think.. www.lingerie2go.co.uk Thanks again Startrekker
Guest Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Get rid of the flash intro (nice but pointless) Images on the site to far too long to load, look at installing a thumbnails contribution.
AfterDark Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 look into your page width - it will annoy the hell out of a LOT of people the way it is currently.
jonyo Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 I agree, the flash intro is a little over the top, and unneeded for a shopping site. If you are dead set on keeping it, I would say make a change: the image affect where the image twists around is a little cheesy... about us: Wow I hope this site is not live. It is not even finished! look at teh about us page... size guide: it is all messed up. I'm using fire fox. terms and conditions: whats up with this page? It is all spaced out in firefox. And why is contact info on terms and conditions page? Contact us: where is your contact info? do you not have a physical address or phone number? Oh wait, its on the Terms and Conditions page... :P Seriously though, you should consider moving your contact info to the contact us page. It was hard for me to find whether or not you ship outside the UK. For some reason shipping was buried under "cancelations and returns" page. Might want to make a seperate info page for it. I liked some of the stuff here, I was thinking of getting something for my wife but I don't know how much anything costs, is there a way to convert to USD since you ship here? I could not find an easy way (like the currency box) Also, how can I pay for stuff? Can I use paypal or send a money order? I think I will wait till the site is finished before I shell out the cash though... Privacy notice: Again looks spaced out in firefox. If information is never released to third parties, how do you ship anything or charge someone's credit card? (something pointed out to me about an hour ago about my site :P ) Unlike some other companies, we will never make a profit from your personal information. Take off the "unlike some other companies" it is never a good thing to belittle other companies, even if it is true and the other companies are not named, it just looks bad... just keep the part "We will never make a profit from your personal information." Although, if you do not make a profit from personal information, how are you supposed to sell me something? Am I getting everything at cost? Overall I like your site, I really was considering buying from you till I headed over to your info pages, you need to fix those post haste. That and everything is in ? which I don't understand since I'm an ignorant American... (that last part was supposed to be sarcastic) Here are some things I did like: Product listings: I like how you can tell just how see through the lingerie is... that is usually hard to tell from online vendors since they censor it... I wanna see how much of my wife I'm seeing when I get her lingerei :) (that part probably has to do with local laws and stuff, but still) I Like the header image (of course I would, I'm a guy ;) ). There is a little extra space on the right but it still looks good. maybe you can fit a search box up there, or better yet another woman :D just a suggestion... I like the little hearts in some of the info boxes. you should add them to the left hand side boxes too! Change "lets see what we have here" (oops thats not something I like, oh well..) I like the "Naughty Others" category... Another small suggestion: I didn't realize it before now, because I was distracted by the images  , but the product listing descriptions are a little short. Is there descriptions from the manufacturer you could use or something? All in all this is a great start on the website, you just have to go through and finish all the "small details" that are so important to websites. Being a guy, it is hard for me to notice small details on a site like that (like I said it took me 5 minutes to realize the product listing descriptions were short) so you might want to go through the site yourself page by page and note all teh small little details, or maybe get someone else (preferable someone that won't be distracted by the pictures) Great site so far, good luck! EDIT: sorry for teh excessive smiley use, I guess I'm in a smiley mood today...
Bigredman74 Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Ditto Kevin & Mike's comments. Your header image takes up a lot of page real estate. It covers most of the screen when viewed in 800x600. Since you only have one infobox in the left column, you might want to consider using only one column. Nice color scheme. However, the product listing colors and stock buttons really don't match the overall color scheme of your site. Also, check your meta tags for keywords and description, you have misplaced quotation marks (") in most pages. I hope this helps. All the best, Tim. jonyo Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 another suggestion: you could benifit from one of the image contribs that allows for multiple images, so that you can see the front and back of certain things... also need one that does thumbnails like Afterdark said.
startrekker Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 Thanks guys for the advice... im definitely gonna use it....
♥14steve14 Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Can only mention what other have really. If it was my site, i would move everything from the right column to the left, and delete all that space, and use it to better show off your products. None of your images on the index page has any sort of alt tags, and they could be made into links. People love clicking on pictures. You need to modify your advanced search help text to something that is relevant to your site, not microsoft and mice. I do like the colour scheme though, but not the buttons. Do a google search for oscommerce buttons, and make some new ones. What with everything else others have mentioned you have a fair bit of work to do, so i wont look any further. Good luck. REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP
Guest Posted June 15, 2005 Posted June 15, 2005 OK - much of what I thought has been mentioned, width of front page, putting all boxes in one column. Definitely make the category images into links to the categories. It's annoying only having the little "more" as a link. When viewing the larger product image, it is larger (height) than the screen (in 1024x768) so you can't see the whole picture. Get rid of the stock buttons and text , What's New Here and, Let's See What We Have Here etc. Blue background in product listing looks wrong. Privacy notice is very short Size guide is way down the bottom of the page - consider listing in inches as well as cm. Consider putting your telephone number in your header - people don't like too much work to find it.
