Grevicci Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Hello, One of my ongoing problems that I have with getting my web site uploaded is that with the first page of osCommerce; how do I change the text? I usually go to index.php and try to change some words there but inevidably I receive the much dreaded "parse error" and I have to reinstall osCommerce again. I want to change the text at this link https://host333.ipowerweb.com/~grevicci/osC...talog/index.php I believe that should bring up the first page of osCommerce. Thankyou for the help. Greg K.
selectronics4u Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 go to cat/includes/languages/english/index.php or whatever language u use and look for a line that says define text main '' your text goes in between the quotes. back up a copy of your file first then if you get an error you can send your file u saved back up and fix the page then try it again till u get it the way u want it. Wendy James Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 Just use the file that comes in the zip. If you don't have it download again... and do not use the file manager that comes with oscommerce. There are known bugs. Download the file you want to edit, edit it then reupload it. Wendy James Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.
Wendy James Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 It is in the bug reports and mentioned over and over again on the forums but it is a problem. Hopefully it will all be fixed in the next release. =) Wendy James Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.
KaiAnimation Posted June 13, 2005 Posted June 13, 2005 If your just getting started, try this contribution. It is just a text file explaining to a newbie what and where things are in this shopping cart program. One thing in text that will make errors, is using apostophies incorrectly. usnswcc's website should be typed like this usnswcc\'s website in text fields. You can\'t type can\'t like this: can't. It will lead to errors. Danny If I'm giving advice, it is based on what path I would take to fix your problem. My path may be wrong.
Grevicci Posted June 14, 2005 Author Posted June 14, 2005 I was able to get the results I wanted. Thank you all for your advice. I guess the key for me is to backup everything that I do and then do my editing with notepad and move the text back and forth that way. Thanks to all. Greg
