HI,

I am new to oscommerce and want to change the header and footer of mysite www.compatiblecarts.co.uk

I know that it has been covered in many other topics and I know how to do it but for some reason i cannot get my FTP to work properly.

I have downloaded a few different types using the ftp address as ftp.compatiblecarts.co.uk and also one that does http fomat as www.compatiblecarts.co.uk. the latter was accepted but still i can not transfer files.

Can anyone give me some advice please.

Many thanks

If you don't have it already then download and install the 30 day trial version of WS FTP Pro (www.ipswitch.com). If you need to know how to set it up properly then go to www.demodemo.com and you'll find the WS FTP Pro tutorial there.

as a simple test, can you ftp directly from your computer?

command line style... assuming windows at cmd:

c:\>ftp ftp.myserver.com

and login, errors

can you:

pwd?

errors?

FugNutz - you and I know Telnet, SSH, and working from the command line, but the majority of people who come here are fairly new to the web and most of them won't have a clue as to what you're talking about.

Ed - your FTP address (Host ID) will usually be ftp.yourdomain.com, while your User Name will usually be the same user name you were given to access your web hosting control panel (sometimes with @yourdomain.com added), and the ftp password should also be the same as for your web hosting control panel.

vger! your right, twenty years at this s..t and i take it all for granted!

it is my belief that OSC does require a certain amount of base knowledge to get things working optimally. i just assumed....

i will keep that in mind for future replies for assistance.

Thanks for your help.

I can now get in thanks to vger's help but i do not know which path to take from here. Does anyone know? I would like to change the logo in the top left corner to my own.

I also have another problem. Whenever someone accesses my site, it says website not responding and you have to refresh 3 or four times before the web page loads properly.

Is there a way to fix this?

Many thanks

Ed
