KDW
so I'm trying to make my store as high-profile as possible. I've strategically placed keywords in the main page's text, the site's title, and I've installed Chemo's SEO URLs and XML sitemap contributions, as well as a dynamic meta tags contribution. (I have also, of course, striven to carry excellent products that people would be interested in purchasing in the first place.) What more could I be doing? What steps have YOU taken to make your store search engine-friendly?

Have you investigated your keywords to ensure they are even being searched for? Is there an adequate amount of text on your home page (usually a minimum of 200 words is recommended)? Does your page titles match your page headings? Is your keyword density around 6%? Is your PR at least a three (determined by number of backlinks)? Have you limited your keywords for the page to 2-3? The list is long and most, if not all, have been covered in the forums. You just need to search it out and apply it. Jack <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You raise a couple things I hadn't heard or thought about, hope you don't mind answering some questions: 1) Just two or three keywords? Does that apply to metas? I always thought the longer the metas the better. 2) How do I get backlinks? 3) How do I investigate the keywords? I haven't really launched the site yet, so I can't analyze traffic for the best keywords.

Sine the first step in optimizing any page for search engines is always meta titles (not meta keywords), and the recommendedmaximum length for a title is 9 words, it's going to be hard to optimize for more than 2 or 3 key phrase anyways. 2) You ask people for them, or sometimes, for a really good link, you buy them. Start with DMOZ, that'll give you a really good, high PR backlink that should get you to a 3 all by itself. Also, if you hae the money, spend the $300 on a yahoo directory listing. Those two links by themselves should give you a 4 or 5. 3.)
