Hi there, I know there have been a few threads about tax not being added to orders but it has really confused me! Would somebody please explain to me in really simple terms (I'm SO new to this! ) how I can get all of my products to have 17.5% VAT added at the end.

Thanks!

Hi Claire,

I'm also new to osCommerce and having problems with sorting out the tax on each product. We also want to get all our products to have 17.5% VAT added at the end. Please tell me how you solved this? We need to be able to show prices for our products, delivery, and a VAT total for each product (as VAT rates vary from each product dependent on the contents of the food hamper). It seems to add tax automatically, using the country/region given as the deciding factor.

Many thanks,

Lauren

Hi Claire,

Sorry forgot to say that some products are not going to have a VAT rate of 17.5%, because some hampers contain different products. Please can you tell me how I can change the VAT rate per product so not every product will be taxed 17.5%?

Thank you,

Lauren

Well you set up different tax classes in the Admin|Taxes|Tax Classes. Set up one called Zero Rated Tax (or whatever you want to call it).

You should already have Tax Zones set up, for instance for my client I set up 2 EU and Non-EU

Then go into Admin|Taxes|Tax Rates

New Tax Rate button

Then pick your Zero Rated Tax from the drop down (this was setup in Tax Classes), pick a Tax Zone (those setup in Tax Zones).

Put in the rate i.e. 0% and a description

Just leave priority blank

click Insert.

Repeat this for each Tax Zone you have setup.

So in the case of my client I had

Zero Rated EU 0%

Zero Rated Non-EU 0%

Priority 	 Tax Class 	 Zone 	 Tax Rate
0  Taxable Goods  Non-EU     0%
0  Taxable Goods  EU            17.5%
0  Zero rated        EU            0%
0  Zero rated        Non-EU     0%
0  Shipping Tax     EU            0%
0  Shipping Tax     Non-EU     0%
0  Test Taxes        EU            20%
0  Test Taxes        Non-EU     0%

That is what my clients Tax Rates screen looks like.

Then when you add/edit a product in your catalog you can select which Tax class should be applied (so if you have not done so already you will need to go into each product and edit it).
