Hello.

Is it possible to change where my oscommerce site is hosted and stored. At the moment the person that is building it is hosting it but hes saying that I have to host it with him now that he has made. He says he doesnt think I can transfer the site over to someone else. Hes charging me ?50 a month. Can the site be transfered.

Many kind regards

Chris

Yeah, download all the files and back up the database.

Chris:

You had a number of replies to your other posting on this question yesterday--before some genius posted a commercial hosting advert and got the entire thread removed...

Yes, you can transfer. For hosting recommedations, try WHT:

actually I am also in need of transfering where osc is currently hosted - my only problem is after backing up the database and downloading all the files, when I go to upload the files to the new server, won't I have to change all the settings to reflect the new server? Or is there an option that allows osc to self-configure according to the new host? Thank you in advance for any suggesstions and tips

You will have to configure that yourself. It's not too hard tho.

When I change hosts, I also upload the install directory then run the install making sure NOT to click the x that says to install the database, if I have already uploaded that myself.

This way it configures it automatically grabbing the info from the host like it did when it was installed originally... if it is on a host I am not familiar with it works well. Otherwise just changing the configuration.php files in both catalog/includes and catalog/admin/includes works =)
