error every time i add articles variable

Hi all and like the rest here I think this is a great contribution. I am having a problem adding a variable for listing the articles box. every time I create the variable in one of the columns and try to add it to the template I get this error Fatal error: Call to undefined function: tep_has_topic_subtopics() in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/watch-universe.com/httpdocs/catalog/includes/boxes/articles.php on line 41

 

I added some other custom fields to see if it is me but it doesnt seem to be. I added a box for google adsense and it works fine.

 

If someone can tell me how to fix this I would appreciate it.

 

I tried commenting out the line just to see what happens and that just creates a parse error.
