Computer_Ignorant Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I am VERY new to web design. I am desiging a web store for my wife and has a few questions about osCommerce. First let me apologize for my extreme naivete. 1. Is it possible to use my own design for the web pages and simply attach "buy", "view shopping cart", and "check out" buttons to my designed site? Or, do I have to use osCommerce's page designs? 2. Is it possible to set osCommerce up so that buyers don't have to join my website or open accounts. i.e. can they just buy and check out? 3. My host provider automatically installed osCommerce on the server for me. The application seems to be installed at www.mydomain.com/osCommerce, and is thus publically available. should I change this location, or is it safe? Thank you VERY, VERY much in advance. Again sorry I'm so green.

First let me apologize for my extreme naivete. The only stupid question is the one that you don't ask 1. Is it possible to use my own design for the web pages and simply attach "buy", "view shopping cart", and "check out" buttons to my designed site? Or, do I have to use osCommerce's page designs? As you are new to osc and web design check out the sts contribution that allows you to include your own design 2. Is it possible to set osCommerce up so that buyers don't have to join my website or open accounts. i.e. can they just buy and check out? this may help 3. My host provider automatically installed osCommerce on the server for me. The application seems to be installed at www.mydomain.com/osCommerce, and is thus publically available. should I change this location, or is it safe? this is fine good luck Regards Mark A Reynolds

Does anyone know if I can use the STS contribute to also create specific "buy now" buttons for each product I list in my design? Thanks again.
bglkk Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 3. My host provider automatically installed osCommerce on the server for me. The application seems to be installed at www.mydomain.com/osCommerce, and is thus publically available. should I change this location, or is it safe? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Many people opt for a more generic directory name (such as www.mydomain.com/catalog or www.mydomain.com/shop), probably assuming that 1) a generic name is easier to remember/navigate; and 2) customers don't need to know the name of the ecommerce application that you are using. But up to you! "Buy the ticket, take the ride..." -HST
