Hi

I am new to oscommerce and when i go to my website

i get this message:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/apassi00/public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english.php on line 79

Could any one help me on this as im a novice and my site looked good as i had loaded over 170 products on to it.

Post a few lines from the file around lines 79 or so. You probably have a missing or additional ' in a text define. Also don't use the osc filemager editor, it's buggy and will cause errors.

Also don't cross post like you did under General support with same question, it wastes time and people chase the same problem for you and it's against forum rules.

Open the file being referenced -- around line 79 you have likely included a word with an apostrophe that hasn't been escaped.

eg: What's New Here

should be entered as:

What\'s New Here

Look for any other instances of the same and you'll likely fix it.

If you are using the File Manager in the Admin section to change your files, DON'T. It is extremely buggy. Better to use some type of text or PHP editor to edit the files, then upload them via FTP.

Sorry i posted twice i thought it would be better that way and misunderstood the rules.

Maybe i should get back in contact with the person i got the site from and who are hosting this for me to sort the problem out for me as i have no knowledge of computers or oscommerce.

some one had adviced me to start from scratch and reload would this mean i would lose the 179 products that i have loaded on to my site?

1. Do not use the file manager that comes with osc. Edit the pages with some kind of editer on your computer (even notepad would work) then upload to your host.

All fixed. There were or 8 lines missing the escape. Looks like it was opened in the osc file manager, and saved, removing all of the escape characters.
