osCommerce

The e-commerce.

Holy smokes! It says "easy as your ABC's".

Hello all you savy php users. I thought this osCommerce would enable me to build a simple, user-friendly site by a few clicks. I have to learn the PHP language?!?!?! I don't have time for that stuff. I want to edit my catalog index.php but it seems to put the text I type (as HTML) way above the page before anything begins. Is this due to my lack of php skills? I suppose I will be learning PHP wheather I like it or not. My index.php file in my catalog is completely blank right now. Can I create a .php page in dreamweaver and then upload it to webshell3? Any tips on 'the beginnings' of a great thing would be much appreciated - Josh

Well, yeah, it won't be just a couple of clicks, but most of us feel the time input has been worth the effort. OSC is a very flexible and stable platform. The customization of the package is its beauty and beast at the same time. Use the Knowledge Base (click Documentation above).

It looks to me like you want to change the text on your main page, but you tried editing the index.php in your catalog folder.

The text you want to change is in the catalog/includes/language/english/index.php

If you want to place any html outside of the main frame, I suggest you check out the STS (simple template system) listed in the contribute section. It's great for getting a quick, semi-customized look.

Hope this helps.
