OK I give up, I'm going to have to make my own mod

Alright guys,

I guess I'm going to have to start figuring out how to alter osCommerce to get what I want out of it.

Anyone know where the best places to start are? I want to be able to alter tables on category pages, etc.

I am just starting php so I have some basic ideas of how it works, and have seen plenty of php code in the past (when modding forums, etc.).

Any advice I can get is appreciated,

Well, a search in Contributions for the general term 'categories' returns 13 pages worth - so I'd make sure first that it's not already been done.

If it hasn't then make your contribution, and then upload it.

The strength (and the weakness) of contributions is that anyone can upload new contributions they've written.

There's no set prerequisite to Contributions; unlike Mambo, for example, which has standards and a built in API. In Mambo, all contributions work and load with the push of a button. The disadvantage to that is there aren't very many tweaks and hacks. There are so very many Contributions to OSC you can almost get exactly what you want in terms of functionality.

Some Contribs are just text files with a snippet of code or instructions to switch a bit here or there. Others are huge and complex, requiring many file changes, additions and MySql insertions. It really depends on what they do. And Vger's right, chances are if you look carefully, you'll find most of what you need.
