Guest Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Hello, How can I add an extra shipping fee (i.e. Hazardous Material Fee) to a range or selection of certain products, i.e paints, propane bottles, etc.? I own an online boating store and we (i.e Fedex & UPS) charge in addition to the normal shipping fee, a HAZMAT Fee. For example, if a customer buys a can of a certain paint, he not only gets charged the normal shipping fees, but an automatic $x.xx amount. It's almost like an extra product field, but that only gets applied when the customer selects it. Unless it automatically gets applied?? Just a thought. Thanks in advance. Greg
Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Greg, It's not an ideal solution, but on one shop where there are some oversized items resulting in extra postage, I have an attibute called OverSize Shipping and 1 option for the charge. The user can't change it or unselect it. Again, not ideal but it works. ed
Guest Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Hi medvid, I think this will work and thanks for the advice. We are re-organizing our DB, so I'll do a few tests. Cheers, Greg

Just about ready to open a 3000 item store and tonight the owner calls and tells me he wants the UPS etc hooked up before we go live.. but thats not all he says we have to add the HAZMAT fee in there.. Now I searched and found this post of yours and while its a good thought I can't see how it's going to work financially in my case.. orders will frequently contain multiple hAZMAT items.. but sometimes only one item.. either way there is a flat fee from UPS, FEDEX, DHL etc.. Setting the attribute code is good, but what tehn?? if I charge everyone $1, I'm out $16 bucks on the ones who order only one HAZMAT item.. if they order five now the customer gets screwed and I probably lost a customer.. Have you got any suggestions??
