thomasking Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I just switched from zencart to osCommerce, does anyone know how I can quickly convert my old zencart MySQL data over? I have them both operating out of the same mysql database now... During the install I told it to use my old zencart db and it installed the sample data in there... hopefully I haven't screwed up my old database, though I do have a backup... did that before I installed.
Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Probably a better question on the zencart forums. The whole zencart project is based on oscommerce. I switched over leaving zencart behind but didn't try bringing the database with me. I'll bet an easypopulate contribution might be the easiest to do what you need.
thomasking Posted June 1, 2005 Author Posted June 1, 2005 problems from other places are not supported here <{POST_SNAPBACK}> problems from other places are not supported here? how rude. the problem is not with zencart, as i am leaving it behind, and wish to update my new osCommerce setup quickly. I figured since they are based on the same it would be no big deal to do. And I thank you for the easy populate suggestion, i read something in one of my searches about exporting zencart data to an xls (excel spreadsheet) using easy populate... now i guess i will go hunt for info on it...
Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 i misread. thought you were going to zencart. what you will need to do is match up the tables from zen to the tables in osc, then remove the ones which do not match, add the ones which do not match.
thomasking Posted June 2, 2005 Author Posted June 2, 2005 i misread. thought you were going to zencart. what you will need to do is match up the tables from zen to the tables in osc, then remove the ones which do not match, add the ones which do not match. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thank you. I did a lot of screwing around with phpmyadmin and figured it out... all of the zen cart stuff was identical, though they had a few extra tables the osc sample db did not have... the zencart db just prefixes thier tables with zen_ i wish there were an easy and fast fix to drop all my osc tables from the sample db and then rename all the ones that begin with zen_ and just remove the prefix I am sure there are a few mysql commands that would accomplish this quickly, but I am no MySQL guru, just a simple hardware tech who has studied C, php, perl and html. I ended up giving up on my last osCommerce install last night... I was having lots of problems implementing the define_mainpage contrib, it was bombing out on something.... I am beginnig to wonder if it is my FTP program, smart ftp that is the problem... My first install of oscommerce bombed similarly, wouldnt let me into admin, saying some kind of fatal error / unable to access stream... I have since told my smart ftp program to do session que uploading and it seems to be doing more cleaner installs... I re-installed zen, you guys probably hate those guys, I am assuming, from all the negative support I have recieved when I mentioned them. The interface seems slicker and cleaner, easier for my customer to update the site themselves. I dont have a problem going with either of these two products, I am not committed to either one, I just want something that will be easily updateable by my customer. If anyone could give me some ideas?
Guest Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 dont mention zen is first recommdation. your problem could be your host server losing connection, not all hosts are created alike. your customer will get more support using osCommerce. items are updateable by customer very easy. interface osCommerce with TurboCash, makes it nice for accounting.
