Guest
Hello All, I (and a designer) have created a oscommerce website which can be found here: My Site Please note the site has been designed to resemble www.keison.co.uk (an existing mainly industrial website) so the branding is similiar. All feedback will be very much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Alec
ohduh!
Hi Alec, Are you aware that when I click on products, every single product in the db shows up? This might be problematic if the company has a lot of items to sell. Some stuff at the top will be often seen, those on other pages (even if an item may be what the customer is seeking) may rarely, if ever, be seen. FalseDawn
The design is inoffensive enough, although the right column looks a bit unorganised and you've missed the yellow hover background color on your page links (see all products listing for what I mean) Also, the menu bar looks a bit "sparse" with only 4 links on it. You might also want to consider changing the stock colors of things like the "error bars" that appear - eg when I click the search button with no text in the box. Guest
Thanks for the feedback people. The Products link certainly needs replacing with another link, i agree it is inappropriate. Also the right hand navigation menu does not stand out enough i think. Some one mentioned it is inofensive which i am glad about but i dont know if thats a complement or not  Any other design issues i should consider, any critisism? Thanks for your time guys. FalseDawn
Some one mentioned it is inofensive which i am glad about but i dont know if thats a complement or not Compared to some of the garishly colored and designed nightmares I see on here, yes, take it as a compliment. scrooloose
In Firefox the footer is left justify, you may want to change that but other than that it looks great to me.
Guest
Thanks for the feedback scrooloose. I have been playing with the site for some time now and need some more eyes on it  . I have 2 concerns about the site: 1) Maybe the navigation which is currently on the right should be placed on the left? 2) The Category navigation does not stand out very much (being light grey and everything), maybe a contribution would help here? What do you think/any ideas? Would you feel comfortable buying from this site? Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks for your consideration. askulte
I was interested in the products, but when I click on a category, it seems like you've got video games, not VOIP hardware. Your title on the website says "OS Commerce", rather than your product name and company name (use Header Tags Contrib, I believe for that). About Us also doesn't have any information in it yet (catalog/includes/languages/english/aboutus.php or something similar). None of your other company information boxes have dialog either (shipping, conditions, privacy, etc.). The colors and layout do seem pleasing enough to the eye. fatmcgav
Yeh, very nice site - pleasing layout - maybe the left hand column could do with being a bit darker though so it stands out a bit more... Also, i duno if it's designed that way or not, but there's quite a big gap at the top, between the links and the grey area... shouldnt the links be ontop of this? It does it in both IE and FF, so it's not a browser error, might be worth looking into fixing... it would also shorten the page a considerable bit, which is always a bonus :) Other than that, add somet like cDynamic Meta Tags or similar to add some decent meta's and control the name. Other than that, it's a very nice site :D
Guest
Hello askulte, Thanks for taking the time to look at my site. Currently I am mainly interested in the colour, design and layout of the site before i proceed to add any products or copywriting. I hope to have launched the real live site by the end of next week which will include copywriting and products. fatmcgav, again thanks for looking at the site, i am going to experiment with the left hand column. I cannot see the gap between the links and the grey area as you can. Maybe this occured during some design and does not exist any more. Can you confirm if it does still exist using a screen shot? I agree its always nice to have a shorter page. When the site gos live i was going to add a contribution for seo. Any more suggestions for the site before it goes live? Thanks once again for your consideration. Alec
jonyo
Hi, this is a nice site. One or two things I thought I'd mention: While meta tag contrib is very good thing to have, it is not how to control the main title of the page. It looks like you just use english, so all you have to edit is the file catalog/includes/languages/english.php Look for this line: define('TITLE', 'osCommerce'); Change the part that says osCommerce to whatever you want the name to be. Kinda funny people are so contrib happy that they tell you to install a contrib to do something so basic (although like I said above, a meta tag contrib is very good...) I recomend having both an seo contrib and a meta tag contrib, they are both very usefull. EDIT: On second look, you could do with a few borders maybe, it might put some emphasis on your menu and make your site look a little more structured... jonyo
Another note I did not notice before: When compairing your site to the Keison site, I see why you did some of the stuff you did. It seems when you were imitating the look and design you lost some of the functionality, like Keison uses their big huge banner's white space on the right to tell you what section of the site you are on, and the left part they put some image dealing with that section. On your version, there is no text on the right so there is a bunch of dead space, and the header banner is the same no matter what page you go to... You might want to find a way to take advantage of that white space some how. And as I said before it would be kinda nice to have some borders. IMHO: how many people are going to want to be on a newsletter for an online store? Who knows but the ones that don't might get turned off at the newsletter signup box on the left side of every page. Why do that when they can do the same thing when they create an account? You definately will not be turning customers away by NOT having the signup box, just something to think about... EDIT: Hehe I am full of ideas... for the white space, why not put the shopping car there? Not the whole box, but a modified version that just shows the basics like sub total and amount of items they have purchased... just another idea to think about ;)

Alec <{POST_SNAPBACK}> this is a template from templatemonster.com - what did you actually create apart from putting in new images? the flash into and left column menu and 'everything' is readymade from the approximately $70 template. having said that....... it is a good template for a lingerie site - ity has potential Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back! Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you? There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere. CHOOCH
