Mediajuggle Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I just got a write up on the Playlist mag website. For those not in the US, PlayList is a magazine that focus' on all aspects of digital life. They have a print magazine as well. Now i have more incentive to finish my store: http://playlistmag.com/features/2005/05/musica360/index.php My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275

Mediajuggle Posted May 31, 2005 Author Posted May 31, 2005 Congrats!! B) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> thanks... i couldn't have created anything like this with "my budget" without the Oscommerce and all the people on this board who have been helping me solve issues.... I originally took of the "powered by oscommerce" statement but I'm definitely gonna add it back because people should know what can be created using this cart, a little patience, and alot of help... lol My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275

Gil_e_n Posted July 13, 2005 Posted July 13, 2005 Now the real question - how did you get those write-ups? Inquiring minds want to know. Always BACK UP your files and your database before making any changes. Before asking questions, check out the Knowledge Base. Check out the contributions to see if your problem's solved there. Mediajuggle Posted July 13, 2005 Author Posted July 13, 2005 Now the real question - how did you get those write-ups?? Inquiring minds want to know. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's the thing.... I wrote my press releases and sent them out to everyone from the smallest blog to Time and Newsweek magazine. At first no one bit.... except Playlist Mag... they responded and interviewed me... once they bit.... I sent out the press release to everyone again.. and this time at the end of the release, I put a link to the Playlist review. That kind of legitimized me... now everytime I send out a press release... I list those places as well that gave me a write up... I submitted to Digital Music News 3 times (the same exact press release) before they gave me any light... but now that they have.. everyone from Snocap to a few other big wigs are contacting me... I'm in the process of working out a deal with Disc Makers and the coming Broadway play, Mambo Kings..... and since I'm presenting a business plan in a few weeks, this press looks really good to my perspective investors... what helped was that my day job is as a web developer so I could spend hours emailing everyone. But even when I couldn't do it during work hours (sometimes I actually had to work).... I spent/spend at least 2 hours every night sending out press releases and emails trying to form partnerships and exchanging links with others. so that's my secret... if you want to call it that... Let's see how much more press these write ups can help me garner.... i'll keep you posted.. My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275

Waiting to see who bites next... My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275
Joe7 Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Thats incredible! Just goes to show that if you put in the hard work you will get results. All those incoming links will help your search engine optimisation :) On a side note: I've never seen an oScommerce store that sells MP3 files! Do you have the resale rights or does the artist somehow take a commision. I am interested :shifty:

Do you have the resale rights or does the artist somehow take a commision. I am interested? :shifty: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> some artists come directly to us others come through a service that provides iTunes, Napster, and the likes with indie artists. The artists are paid for every download... There are quite a few oscommerce stores that sell mp3s... but not like us. Most sell singles and if they sell albums they combine all the tracks in a zip file. We don't. When you buy an album off our site, all the singles files that make up the album are then combined for download... Joe7 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I like the feature that lets you listen to the audio while on the songs page. I just need some speakers :( Have you thought about creating seperate sites for different music genres..

I just need some speakers :( Have you thought about creating seperate sites for different music genres.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, the audio works well. That's the OSplayer contribution with a slight modification. As far as the different stores for different genres, No. I'm sticking strictly to the latin stuff. I come from the dot-com era, and the company that I used to work for tried, that approach... tried to launch different sites for different genres... like Audiolunchbox.com is about to do, but what happened was that in trying to be everything to everyone, they wound up losing focus and went under. I want to focus on one thing, and just do that one thing exceptionally well. My Contribution Music Download Store Template http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4275
Joe7 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Yeah after browsing through your site I can understand what you mean, try and compete in one reasonably small area. Maybe you should create a subdomain for each artist, it wouldn't be that much hassle if you have cPanel. e.g. http://nameofartist.musica360.com Then they could promote there songs easier.

hubcat Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 So with all the press you've gotten, have you actually seen decent business in your first week? Or at least a decent visitor count? Does the press appear to have helped? Thanks, Adrienne
Mediajuggle Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 So with all the press you've gotten, have you actually seen decent business in your first week? Or at least a decent visitor count? Does the press appear to have helped? Thanks, Adrienne I've seen decent traffic the first week. Sales is another story though I wasn't expecting to have huge sales the first week. I estimate it'll take about 3 months to get sales to an anticipated acceptable level. I'm currently making partnerships with a lot of other companies which i'll be sending releases out and we're printing some "free download" cards that we'll be giving away at the hispanic parades (Dominican and Puerto Rican) in New York and Philly. We'll be hitting the the clubs and bodgedas with printed gift cards similiar to the ones itunes and napsters use and arranging free giveaways with some of the larger latin internet stations and offline college stations. On my end, i will still have to compensate the artists whether I give away the downloads or not but it's the same as spending on advertising except that it'll be more targeted. I ran an indie label and we're going to use some of the same guerilla tatics to market our site as we would a record. Guest Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Hi Mediajuggle, I have just finished designing a site for a client and have been trying to set up a store for him using oscommerce. 1. I would be very interested to know what contributions you used to setup your store if thats not secret, the site is for a producer/drummer from the uk and he has tracks that he wants to sell as downloads. I've been reading through the forums and came across your thread checked out the site and like its simplicity and clean look. I wish you every success, stay blessed.
Mediajuggle Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Hey GeNeSCO, no problem... i'll break down what i've used.... Master Products - it's been modified so that 1. all i have to do is upload the image for the Master and the slaves will automatically use that image 2. if you choose to buy the whole album, only the master will appear in the shopping cart (not the slaves) 3. slaves will appear in a search, but when you click them on, only the products Master page will appear Download Controller - it's been modified so that 1. If you purchase the whole album - every song making up that album will appear once the payment has been processed. This way I don't have to keep 2 sets of files; one for the singles and one containing all the songs for the download.. Featured Products to display the featured products on the home page Credit Class & Gift Voucher To handle the discount coupons 'On the Fly' Auto Thumbnailer using GD Library for the thumbnails OsPlayer for the soundclips free of charge to handle the free downloads Authorizenet consolidated 1.8 to handle the payments Forum OC2.2 MS2 - it's been modified so that 1. you have to login to post and view the forums 2. it automatically uses your login id when you make a post OSC XML Feed - this is most important... this has been modified to 1. allows me to EASILY upload products in xml file (as well as export and modify). I don't have to worry about model numbers or anything like that. I had so many problems with Easy Populate but this is sooooooooo much easier you wouldn't believe it... 2. it handles master products and download attributes Other modications 1. The New Music section has been modified so that it will only display albums and not the single songs that make up the albums. i think that about sums it up... though i'm sure i've forgetton a few things...
