oakhill Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Hi This could be way too difficult but I am currently setting up a fabric wholesale site and am wondering if anyone has seen a contribution or has set up on thier site a sample request feature. By this I mean customers can request a sample cutting of fabric to be sent to them. I was thinking something along the lines of a check box added to the product_info area. Once the customer has selected the item/s, the list could be emailed back to the company to be filled and sent. The service is free so doesn't need to go through checkout process as such. Is this possible? Thanks!!
Guest Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 create a product attribute, which says free sample, which the customer can add to their shopping cart.
oakhill Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 create a product attribute, which says free sample, which the customer can add to their shopping cart. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Had a try of that and the concept will work but how do you make it so the price is $0.00. I must be missing something as it keeps coming up as the price of the fabric? Thanks for your help!! :D
oakhill Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 Me again, I have discovered how to make the amount $0.00 but if someone is ordering just free samples set up via product attributes, the checkout process still requires payment and shipping - this is ok if they have ordered actual meterages but not if they have selected just cuttings (which we provide as a free service). Is there a way around this? Thanks!! :D
Guest Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 you can search for and download a free shipping contribution
oakhill Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Hi I am still trying to work a solution for this free cutting service! I discovered how to make the price of the sample $0.00 using the product attribute option. But once the item is added to the cart, the customer is still asked for payment and shipping even though the total is $0.00. What I want the site to provide is that if the customer orders just free cuttings, for the checkout process to show free shipping and no charge. I was playing round with the free shipping contributions but they ask for min costs which mucks up the TNT shipping. Is there a way of setting the Free Shipping to activate when the amount equals $0.00 rather than min or max figures? Then if the subtotal is over $0.00, the TNT option kicks in? Plus is there an way of having a No Charge option in the Payment area for orders equalling $0.00. And there is one more curly one - I have a small order charge on orders less the $125. Which means free cuttings will incur this cost. Is there a way of setting the charge to apply between $1.00 and $125 rather than under $125? And of course, once the customer adds actual fabric to the cart, even if there is free samples, then normal delivery costs and payment options kick in. I hope this all makes sense. I really thought I had the solution when Mibble suggested product attributes but not quite! Its confusing but I am sure there is an answer somewhere! Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance! :)
Guest Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 the download controller contribution has free shipping built in with it
oakhill Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Yay, solved one problem - the option of no charge was there all along (I am using osmax version). Found it when I looked at the Download controller contribution! So now if the subtotal is $0.00, it doesn't ask for payment! However still got problems with the small order surcharge and shipping however I am one step closer!! Thanks Mibble for alerting me to that option! :)
