Start by playing with it.

Always have backup copies of all your files, and just change things and see what happens. Your ideas will nicely snowball from there, they did for me.

A nice starting point is to play with the stylesheet; a lot can be changed just by editing that. Then you can start playing with the code.

If you want to make it look as much like the rest of their site as possible, you probably should check out the two template system contributions:

Simple Template System

Basic Template Structure

Rule #1: Without exception, backup your database and files before making any changes to your files or database.

Rule #2: Make sure there are no exceptions to Rule #1.

Ah this is the point I am at too - I have been doing websites since '97 but have never done a shop before!

2 of my friends sorted out the server side of things and got everything set up so now I just get to play with the settings which should keep me out of mischief/give me a nervous breakdown

I must remember not to agree to do a website so quickly in the future and should find out what I am letting myself in for first!
