slee
Is it possible to edit an order to add more shipping?
Guest
Be careful. That's a good way to piss off customers. When they compare the price they think they paid to their monthly statement...ouch! It sounds like you're in for a lot of chargebacks! Look at Contributions for a way to make the charges right up front. Or, start a little too high and send 'em some money back by lowering the charge or refunding. Then be sure they know about it. Money back? Customers love that stuff!! IMHO, not good business, unless you're reducing shipping costs. Look for the Order Editor contribution. slee
it could be more it could be less but how do i edit a customers order? for the site im making its general practice to do this for overseas shipping as it is done on weight rather than in the uk its by price. its either that or is there a way to set it up so if they are in the uk they get charged shipping by the price and if they are anywhere else they get charged according to the weight? thanks :)
Guest
Are you processing their cards in real time? If not, you could add all of the shipping as needed before running the card. You could note on the site that the shipping charge given is just an estimate or say that they will receive an e-mail with the total when the order ships. It isn't as professional since folks are now becoming used to e-commerce with live tie-in quotes from the shippers. If you could do that, it would be better. You'd have fewer abandoned carts. Another thing you should watch out for is your merchant account and the cc companies. They won't like you much if customers complain about your charges regularly. There might even be something for shipping zones that could help you with your UK vs. the World shipping rates. Look into the Contributions. There's a wealth of functionality already coded. Just be careful adding them to your store! Hey, what about an intro page with UK,Worldwide as two options each one leading to a different store? Mention the one in the other for the dunces and limit the shipping countries properly. Then set the one for weight and the other for total! Just load a copy of your store into a new directory, do the same with the database, change the configs and make the minor adjustments. Admin is slightly more complicated. Inventory would have to be juggled.
