The correct procedure is

1) Backup old db and create a strucutre and data SQL script using phpMyAdmin

2) Create a new empty db

3) Run the SQL script from 1 into your new db

Notes :

a) The db's (old and new) should be on the same version of MySQL - else you may have problems with a SQL script created on an older version of MySQL when you try to run it into the new db

B ) Your new store will connect to the new db by configuring the connection strings in both your configure.php files

Great but this line above.

In PHPadmin I just backed up to a file.

Did I miss a step?

When you go to the export tab in phpMyAdmin

First of make sure you select ALL tables then

Select structure and data export options as appropriate

I would export the structure with these options

Add drop table - Just to make sure your new db is empty

Add if not exisits - to add ALL your selected tables from old to new database

And data with this option

Complete inserts

Then save the file as a SQL file which you can then import into your new db.

Shoot. I just did an export with standard options.

Any way to put in the customers now?

The data export with inserts should add all your data including customers to the new database

  • 2 weeks later...

Still don't know how to do this. The issue is the Data base has been backed up with defaults then the SQL was deleted. So I can't go back and do inserts.

Can I restore my clients to the new database now with the back I have?

looks like you need to get that info from the oscommerce.sql file which comes with a fresh download of the source code, and go from there, extracting the create table inserts.
