Anyone meet offline?

Recommended Posts

Not from this forum, Some of my closest (skin and bone) friends come from the internet. They aren't geeks or anything either.

Having said that, I do live in a big city where most of the people here are online.. Maybe I'm just one of those people who would rather get to know someone like a "pen pal" before meeting them and avoid lots of awkwardness than meeting someone in "real life" :)

Anyway. I'm married to my website.. I spend far more time on her than with humans.. Which is very disturbing.

Alas, I am fooling myself...it could never work. My family would disapprove, and the day would come when your head is turned by a younger rabbit. Such is life. :o :(

Cute thread! I first saw my wife on an on-line dating service but never contacted her until we met at her work. I was there to buy plants from her nursery for my nursery. She's into kids, plants and web dev (a bit). We're just right for each other. Divorced and generally disappointed by who I found to date, I swore off marrying and was close to a hiatus on dating. Amazingly, we were married in less than a year!! When you know it's right, you just know. We have adopted a beautiful little girl and she fits right into our blended family. Life is good! :P

Well, let's see.  I met my wife off of Yahoo chat, although it turns out we worked at the same company and she'd been eyeing me.  I didn't know that though when I contacted her, so we basically met online.

Wow, it's a small world! what happened when you realised you knew each other???

It was pretty funny. She knew me immediately, since she'd already been eyeing me at work. But I didn't even know that she existed, since at work I was pretty focused (still am). She eventaully revealed that she knew me, and we ended up meeting a few days later in real life, and have been together ever since.

Our first "date" was pretty nerdy. I took her to work with me on a Sunday afternoon/night because I needed to get a few things done, just so we could chat and say hi, etc. We spend the evening doing welds on optical fiber - although I have to say I didn't get all that much work done!

We've been married just over three years now, and it's as a direct result that I'm here now in the first place, since an old friend of her sisters was the person that told me of osCommerce in the first place. Go figure!

Ha, I'm crazy about an online girl that I met when I was 11 years old... And now I?m 20 and I want to meet her so badly but I'm a chicken... Only problem is starting a business has taken a great investment and the business I?m starting hasn't completely taken off... So the trip from Cali to Aus isn't reasonable right now... We stopped talking to each other due to this for like 9 months lol But I still can't date someone without thinking about her the entire time... Pathetic I know... I don't ever want to grow feelings for someone online again ^_^

ummm... dont know if it is safe to do so

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

Is anyone interested in getting together in the Seattle area?  Want to find out how many would show up on a Saturday!

I'm going to drive up to Seattle to see John one of these days, so if you're in the Portland area and want a ride in my car (a comfy beamer!) you're welcome to come along.

I think a lot of people wouldn't show because of how many lies people make about themselves because they are insecure... But I could be wrong? I'd meet you Mibble.. Last time I went there though I got lost :|

A long time ago there were plans to have a little osC get-together but it never worked out because too many people were from different parts of the US (e.g. east coast and west coast).

If a regional approach was tried then it probably would have been more productive.

If anyone is into Home Theater and osCommerce or programming and around Cookeville, TN let me know. ;) LOL
