Prefixing database table names

My server only allows one MySQL database and I already have PHPBB and a guest book running on said database. Both have prefixes on the table names so they are easily identified and flow alphabetically.

I have prefixed the OScom tables (oscommerce.sql) manually with shop_ so they can be identified separately. All went smoothly through the installation but when I tried to access the catalog or admin I got the error message

1146 - Table 'mydbname.configuration' doesn't exist

select configuration_key as cfgKey, configuration_value as cfgValue from osc_configuration

[TEP STOP]

I made the changes to install/includes/functions/database.php and admin/backup.php but now I don't know what else to do to fix the problem. Can anyone assist? Thanks
