Zyrul Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 My Webpage This is my first online store ever, which takes more than 3 month before going live. I am no web designer nor programmer, I know a little bit of HTML and bam! one day my friend (the store owner) told me a joke -- to have a better-than-amazon online store which is never going to happen by the way -- but amazingly two month later there it is. My friend have a guitar store here in Japan and for a very small shop, we really couldn't afford to pay the Pros to manage the store and thats why we did it ourselves. I've no idea what is php at first but thanks to all of you guys out there because the only thing we've referred to while doing the project was osCommerce Communty Forums. Salute and salute more  . Sometimes I read the contributions, tips & trick etc for more than 10 hours o:) Thanks again and again. English is not a native language -- which was also another big problem. Having a Japanese only webpage is probably easy but of course our motto is to fight with amazon  and thats why we provide the english page (but the thing is we only ship products to Japan only so probably no need for an english verson don't you think?) Anyway please give your opinion and I'll try my best to kick amazon  Yoroshiku Onegaishimasu B)

By the way, it is a good idea to also have an english version. Just remember, your shop is not just for online purchase but also a good way to advertise your real shop around the world. An extra branch office if you will with a shop window that everybody can see. Think of all the foreign tourists/businessmen who visit your city. They may browse the web in their hotel room, find your site and decide to visit your real shop. Treasurer MFC

Guest Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 I actually think I'm glad you haven't converted your priced into GBP.. I've got far too many guitars as it is! I really like your store. One thing I personally would have done differently is put your bits like Capos, polishes, tuners and so on into the accesories category.. Reduce your category list.. If I was specifically looking for a capo, I'd guess that it'd be in accessories- I'd look there first before looking through your whole list on the offchance that it has its own category. I'd do the same with your straps (seeing as you currently only sell one and without an image.. It doesn't really sell itself!) You could even subcategorise your items outwards.. It just makes the main page a tad less daunting. That's just the way I'd do it. Your presentation is brilliant.

I've thought of combining those 'capos', 'cables' etc into the 'accessories' category. Surely it does seems weird when you view the page in English. But here in Japan I find a lot of sites that make 'capos', 'cables', 'polish' and some products into a separate category other than 'accessories' (I don't know why). So probably I should stick to that since some people here also didn't like to browse too deep into sub-categories. Anyway thanks to you for the advice on the 'strap' one because we only have 3-4 products anyway and I've removed them to the accessories category. That one is better. Thank Again.
