jcgrant Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Hi, I am new to ecommerce, and I want my customers to trust my site. I have been reading about secure servers and certificates etc... What i would like to know:- Is there alot of configuring to do etc.. after I have a secure server setup any help would be great people thanks John
♥Vger Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 First thing to do is to find out from your hosting company if they use a two-folder system for httpdocs and httpsdocs. If they do then move your site before buying a full ssl cert. The two-folder systems are not necessary and will just create work and hassle for you. On a single folder system there is very little configuration to do, especially with a full ssl cert. Vger

♥Vger Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 If you are hosting your site on a shared server then you will need your site to have its own dedicated IP address. Read my post above, find out if your host uses a two-folder system. If they do, don't bother, move then sort out a full cert and ip address. If your host uses a single folder for http and https then find out if they allow you to install your own cert. Some hosts will only allow full certs to be installed by themselves and charge you for the installation. Vger
