dswofford Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 I am new to SEO but it seems that there are many diffrent routes you can take as far as seo... SEO Urls AllProducts Meta tag contributions.... What I wondering is which are the best / Of the most quality.. Do any conflict with each other? Also it seems search engines are changing there way of indexing therefore its like im changing to meet them. Wouldnt it be better to have great content and let the engines worry about whether or not they can figure out what it is.. I dont mean to seem all high and mighty but Im not a big fan of installing contributions all over a site thats already working???????? (Trying to figure this out by googles next update)
Jack_mcs Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 If by "already working" you mean that you are placed high in the SERP's then it would probably be a waste of time to make any changes. If you are not, then you need to install some contributions. The most important are the ones that affect the title of the pages of your shop. This would be header Tags and Dynamic Meta Tags. I prefer the former, some prefer the latter. They both work, but not together. Depedning on the rest of your page, you can get a top ten position with just Header Tags. If the rest of your page is not setup correctly, then adding Ultimate SEO and SEO iteMap will help. All products and SiteMap MS2 will also help. These two should be installed anyway since they are helpful to your customers. Jumping Rabbit Posted May 2, 2005 Posted May 2, 2005 The seo urls in osCommerce works on some servers, but not on all. If it shows errors turn them off. You can find other alternative seo url add ons in Contributions Header tags works, if you like it then stick to it. Regarding sids - let force cookies stay at false - set prevent spider sessions to true - get the latest spiders.txt from the contributions section and upload it to your site. dswofford Posted May 2, 2005 Author Posted May 2, 2005 If your sid has already been spidered, no, then u need something like this Spider Session Remover <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks A million!!!!! I see the point that would have been bad every one logging in under th same sid one more question isnt all products contribution redundent it seems to only save the spider one level of crawling and now its going to see the same info twice once it crawls the rest of the site?

It doesn't do anyting fancy, just provides the SE's with a quick link to the products. Since you are on a windows server, you cannot use SEO SiteMap and can only use Ultimate SEO in the cName mode. Son't use the search engine safe URL option - it rarely works correctly. Leave force cookies off and prevent spiders on.
