webmaster68
Hi, Do I need to have a gateway if my client wants to use the "Split Credit Card E-mail Address" option in the "Admin" panel of the OSCommerce panel. He wants OSCommerce to send him the credit card info via e-mail and manually enter each transaction into his Merchant Account and handle the shipping seperately. Please get back to me on this A.S.A.P. I am new to all of this. Thanks everyone. Sincerely, Tom
mbweb
I'm in the same situation with a client right now. This is what I know: You don't need to have a Gateway. The store owner is sent an email with the middle 8 digits of the card number, then they have to logon to Admin to get first and last 4 digits. They take the full number and process it on his/her swipe machine. So, the nice thing about it is it's a nice fast and simple way to receive credit card information. The thing I was wondering about was security and how the number was stored in the database. I just looked into it, though, and saw that only the first 4 and last 4 digits are actually stored in the DB. So, the only potential problem that I see is that if the email doesn't get to the store owner for some reason, they will have no way of retrieving the full number other than contacting the customer. So, security wise it's pretty safe, since one would need to intercept the email AND have access to admin to get a complete CC number. Just processing my own thoughts! Hoped it helps you too.
