Hi,

Could I use OSCommerce as an online price list and switch off the facility to accept online payment?

The reason I want to do this is because we have a parts database system in house and if I upload parts database to OSCommerce we then have two databases selling same parts. Obviously they will become out of sync very qucikly so until we have resolved how to deal with that I would like to use OSCommerce as an online price list and let people phone through for parts they find in our web site.

When we have resolved how we want to to go about synchronising databases then I can switch payment options on. In the meantime a daily upload to the OSCommerce database would be done.

you can.

you could setup odbc to work with the parts database, however without knowing much on the internal database, and what youare doing, not much else i can say on that part.

Am I correct in thinking that there is an option in OSCommerce to switch off payment processing and that I don't need to do any coding to switch it off?

you can in the admin area 'remove' the payment modules (set to false) however will they be using it to 'purchase' items in the shopping cart or just viewing?

Ideally just viewing.

However, I thought that maybe if they request to buy then I could pop up a window requesting them to phone through for confirmation of availability.

Another thought is that if stock level is above say 5 units then allow the online sale to go through as parts would most likely still be available in stock, otherwise do as above .
